If you watch closely, Season 4 features a new comlink watch. It has a larger Quartz display and hasn't got that round little thingy (microphone?) on the bottom left corner.

yeah I saw that too. You know I think they should have taken it further and put KITT's voice modulator three red vertical lines on the watch when Michael talks to KITT with it, I think that would have been cool.

You know, Michael's comlink isn't so far-fetched these days. Especially now that there's camera phones that can send and record videos. It's just that whole ultrasonic frequency stuff that was used to pick locks...
