You know, I never realized that it wasn't just that the car originally had a different nose; the actual hood of the car and scanner are different as well.

For me this is the Original KITt from Knight Rider, the Prototype. On the Knight Con 2004 ive seen Michael Scheffes Drawings. The first KITt was that KITT. I Love it

That nose was made for the demo of Knight Rider. It was old footage from the segment they taped to sell the show. (Universal)

Actually, you can see it in the intros to each episode of the first season if you have the Season 1 DVD set (at least, it's shown in all episode intros of the Region 1 set). I admit, they show only briefly, but it's there.

Heh, in one of them you can see a normal steering wheel.

Looks like they did a low-budget fiberglass fill job on the original Trans Am front nose, or blacked it out. This original design had no foglights. Later KITT had foglights. They are pretty much needed when you have pop-up eyes on a car because those motors tend to burn out leaving one up and not the other, etc. So to see in the dark you still want to have some backup - like foglights.

Besides the extra lights, when lit, made KITT look more like a UFO!

Really cool.
I agree, this is more like a "baby KITT" picture.
Aw... KITT's baby pictures!

the round steering wheel and 1982 stock dash is really evident when the thieves steal kitt and he scares them by doing donuts in the middle of an intersection..

someone on here said that due to time a budget reasons, that was the nose used in the pilot they went to the company with the get the show on. then when it was greenlit, they redid the pilot using footage from the "demo" with that car in it.
be interesting to see JUST the demo they used to sell the show.
