Very cool news KnightRiderUk and KnightRider NL!
Lets remember when posting information that has been found on another site first, the good thing to do is give proper link backs to the original articles:
http://knightrider.nl/forum2/viewthread.php?tid=308
http://www.knightrideruk.co.uk/forum/vi ... p?tid=1935
The translation of the original article on Knight Rider NL states that the dates come from the London Universal office by way of the Netherlands Universal office. Since these dates are coming from an international source, I would say that it's safe to say that these dates will be different for the Region 1 market. The original post also mentions that a Region 1 date for Europe hasn't been set, mentioning the possibility of music clearances.
Of course this is all subjective to my babelfish.altavista.com translation.

I was going to say, I'd hate to wait until July 2005 for season 2, which would almost be a year from the release of S1.
I'm glad the dates could change.

Ya... We have to wait for a year for the season 2 set to be released.....no way... I hope it will be faster for region 1. Maybe and hopefully season 2 will be available for region 1 by end of this year...

You are all talking as if it WILL be a year until season 2 arrives. I very much doubt it.

Indeed you are right! We were told it was going to take so long because of all the music copyright in the rest of the season! And theres alot! But at least they are doing something!

This page explains what DVD regions are. In a word, they're stupid.cloudkitt wrote:i hope not, but what are these "regions" everyone keeps talking about?
Now that I've finished my Twilight Zone and Babylon 5 DVD collections, I'm ready to take the plunge and buy Knight Rider on DVD. Yeeha!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the region thing goes like this I think. Region 1 is meant for the American market, Region 2 is meant for the European market. Region 1 won't play in a Region 2 DVD player, unless it is a regionfree player.
And the message I got from Universal came from their headoffice in London, so I would think that goes for the European market, which is Region 2. I haven't got a clue as to the releasedates for America, are they the same or not? I honestly don't know....

Here is a little map to help illustrate our points:

Like KI3000 said in one word: Stupid. There is no technical reason that the discs would require Regions. Most DVD players can decode the discs to display the video signal properly so NTSC and PAL really isn't an issue.
Movies sometimes are released in the theaters and make it onto DVD before another Country even has even gotten the movie. Take this for example: Last years movie 28 Days Later was out in England and out on DVD before it even made it to the US theaters. So why would you spend 10 bucks a ticket for 5 of your friends, when you can just pay $20 bucks and have a DVD thats forever yours?
That's the main reason for it. Studios don't have the man power required to release a movie everywhere on the same day. So most discs will say on the back, what region it's encoded to, pick up any DVD and you'll most likely see it. Some discs come Region Free, meaning they can play anywhere regardless of the DVD players Region, these discs are usually old old films, porn or informational discs.
As KARR-1 and I have said, the information is from the International office. By all looks of it, the American office has no idea of these release dates. Which in itself is interesting, cause the International division is a subsidiary of the American NBC Universal.

I just got word from a contact at Universal about these release dates in general and specifically in regards to a Region 1 timeframe. I was told that he had "no idea where they got those dates," and to "not take them seriously." It would be safe to ignore these dates for Region 1 viewers.
Sarfraz: I believe the dates K.I.T.T and KARR-1 posted were for the Region 2 sets, since the info is said to have come from a Universal International office.

Yeah I understand that, I just find it really odd that although theres news of region 2 season 2,3 and 4 we haven't heard anything of region 2: season 1. You would have thought, thats the first thing to be announced, not the last.neps wrote:Sarfraz: I believe the dates K.I.T.T and KARR-1 posted were for the Region 2 sets, since the info is said to have come from a Universal International office.
