What kinda rims do you have now?...if you want you can shoot me an email....if you have the stock style rally rims that do not except the caps ,I might have a way to get them to adapt?...GB wrote:I do not have a replica but I own a black '84 Trans AM with T-Tops and all the specific '82 parts (except the 15" rims).
I'll probably convert it in the near future.

That's a 2 years-old pic
it was before I did the major work on it :
- polyurethane bushings all around (except on the engine, gearbox and torque arm)
- new front brakes pads
- new muffler and exhaust tail pipes
- new sparks plugs + new wires
- new O2 sensor and coolant temp sensor
- front brakes disks redone
- E4ME carb redone
- steering column redone
- adding of factory power windows, power locks, power trunk, power seat
- adding of PMDs
- adding of rear locking floor storage and cargo cover
- front '82 nose + grills
- removal of the '84 GFX
- adding of the '82 round shifter knob + '82 shift plate
- adding of front driving lights
- adding of an Iroc wonderbar
- adding of new 205/70R14 tyres
- complete realignment of all the front body panels (hood, nose, headlights, fenders)
In fact, a lot of things (and more not listed) which will make it ready to receive conversion parts in the near future.
Next to come will be Yellow adjustable Koni struts and some small body work to make it perfect. Normally that's all I want to be done before I decide to convert it
Here are some pics from last week :

How easy to come by are replacement parts in your neck of the woods?

Replacement parts are quite easy to find (I mean spark plugs, oil filter, gearbox filter, brakes pads...).
Big parts like interior parts or body panels are also not too difficult to find in used conditions if you know some people who often deal with US cars or parts (but I don't include the professionnals, most of the people specialized in the US cars business in France are thieves and not really good with mechanics

The '82 specific parts needed for a conversion are more difficult to find. Personnally, I was quite lucky, the original rims that came with my car were the 14" Turbo Cast I have currently (my RPO sticker shows the N89 code, so they are really the ones that came with my car when new) which is quite unusual for an '84 T/A.
I only had to buy the caps in the States.
For the PMDs, I found them in a French junkyard specialized in US cars. I came randomly accross an '82 T/A which was almost complete at that time. Were only missing the engine and gearbox + hood.
The PMDs were in very good shape (as shown on my pics). I got them for 30 euros (about $25 USD), the guy made a mistake when he did the grand total

For the other '82 parts, I got them in the US, there is no secret. It includes another set of power PMDs this time in very good conditions, a spare, complete and mint set of 82-84 Trans AM tail lights (with the Pontiac and eagle in gold, the rarest kind of center piece if not wrong), I bought the round shifter knobs in the US too and a complete '82 shifter in mint conditions from the Canada. I replaced my center console and bought one and even bought a rear spare 82-84 bumper just in case a rear-end collision could occur.
So Lofer, unless you are very lucky, you will have to buy the specific '82 T/A parts directly from the States.

No problem, but concerning that yard, it was really because I needed 2 body panels that I went there. The guy was a thief too and a big d***head
so that's why it's still amazed me that I got the PMD for that price
For example, one door with dead hinges (I mean the bushings, so the door is almost unusable) without window, window regulator, lock mechanism, mirror, door panel... the door was really empty : 305 euros

Same price for a left front fender I took off that '82
Last time I went, we had a row a friend of mine and me with him (which definitely proved me he was a real moron).
I got another one 'cause I was ripped off with the one above, it only costed me 120 euros with window, lock mechanism, door triangle, window regulator... But from was I know, the guy who sold it too me stopped to sell parts, he is now specialized in boats with V8 engines
If you really look for parts in Europe, I would advise you to contact people who have replicas or 82-92 Firebird to ask them where they collect stock parts for their cars. Some of them should probably have interesting way to find them in Europe. Don't you have in Spain magazines specialized in US cars ?? If yes, look at the ads, maybe you could find something interesting not too far from you.
And also, look on E-Bay Germany (http://www.ebay.de), they have often parts for our cars or part out some cars for parts.

I would say carb engines. They are easy to tune-up, repair or replace, which are not the case for TBI engines or TPI which need some good mechanics experience to work on them all by itself.
Anyway, the Crossfire is not the official engine of KITT, a lot of engines were used (305 Crossfire engines, 305 LG4 carb engines, 350 carb engines, V6).

No your right the crossfire engine was not the official engine.
The crossfire was very popluar because in 1983 "almost" all Trans Am's
were equiped with them. Most of the stunt doubles had the crossfire,
and alot of the other cars had a custom 350 carbed engine in them
as well.
The crossfire engine was an a experiment in 1983-1984 in the
Trans Am's and the Camaro's. The crossfire was in the Corvete's
in the mid 1970's, but as a 350 not a 305. GM found that the
crossfire engines were to be to much trouble, much like it was in the
Corvete's, so they pulled them and went back to the carbed motor
untill 1986 when the TPI edition was born.
My friend Stylez (a member on here) owns a 1987 Trans Am with a 5.7L
(350)TPI engine. And let me tell you, that is one strong engine to have
in these 3rd gen cars..

Hi Everyone,
I'm new here on this board.
I live in France and I'm making a KITT replica.
Sorry, I'm not used with this board yet.
My car can be seen on knightreplicas.com.
I've bought it last year. It's a red 1986 Pontiac Firebird. In pretty good shape
but it needs some repairs.
First, Ive began to fix it. It wasn't serious, just some parts to replace. I've got some transmission parts to change and it will be OK.
i've decided to start my conversion recently.
I' ve put some 1982 taillights. I'm waiting for my Turbo Rims and my hubcaps. I'll also buy a blackout taillight, a gullwing wheel and at the end of the year, a nose and a scanner.
In theory, I'll bought the dash next year.[/img]
