An Important Message about KITT Conversions!

Post by KnightRider2000 » Mon Dec 29, 2003 9:12 pm

Hello,

Mark's Custom Kits is now selling an original restored KITT that was used in the TV show! The car can be viewed at:

http://www.markscustomkits.com/For-Sale.html

I have personally seen his restorations and they are beautiful. I strongly urge someone who is in the market for buying one, BUY IT, while you have the chance. This is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity!

Gonna ask your uncle Bill? (Gates)

Nah...he'd never give the cash. KITT has always been beyond the limitations of his OS.

I think you will find that further details will appear at Mark's site, since he is the one selling it. But thanks for the heads up anyway.

I think it should be noted that this is not for the average car person. (though the price pretty much says that anyway.) The following wording does appear on the website:

The owner of this car has not driven it, as it is NOT designed to be driven on public streets, although it is fully functional and can be driven for car show and exhibition use. This will be sold on "Bill of Sale" only with original Universal Studios documentation as provenance to its true origin, as well as other documentation proving its actual use in various episodes. Display material will also be supplied for use as museum-display reference material.

Defo a pretty nifty deal. Those who are dead serious should take the opportunity to contact Mark's Custom Kits.

39k for a restored show car ain't to bad.

A full non-show car conversion runs in that range anyway doesn't it?

Show cars and parts are pretty rare I imagine. Marks sure does have the monoploy on such items. Wonder how he tracks them down?

I don't know why you can't drive it, it might have something to do with the turn signals (wich can be added on next to or replacing the fog lights on the ends) but it might also have something to do with universal, maybe someone else knows?

The add-ons within it, most likely make the thing non-street legal like most conversions aren't. Not to mention, it would be a shame to wreck something like that just because you were cruising to a burger joint to show it off, ya know? It's a show car.

I know I wouldn't drive the thing if I got it.

I'd prefer a non show car one myself. That way I wouldn't feel bad if something happend to it knowing it was once just a plain old 86 Formula or something.

If I wrecked a show car I could never forgive myself.

No, the add-ons are perfectly legal, you can even go to mark's faq (general questions is the site) on his website. The dash, steering wheel, nose, and scanner (only in some states, if the light is not red or blue) is legal. So what else could it be besides the signals? Any guesses?

True. With a prize catch like that, you had better keep it on a trailer...that has the garage built around it.

Better yet, go ALL THE WAY and build the FLAG Semi to house your prize KITT in. :D

could be for insurance purposes as well.

It states it can be driven for show purposes. If the car was damaged it would prove very expensive for the insurance company to repair, so maybe they prohibit street driving as a condition of coverage to cover their rears on the deal.

If it has the stock engine, about 160-180.

I think it says it had the stock 305 replaced with a 350 with no emissions equipment. The HP rating could be anyones guess. I'd say anywhere above 300 with that setup.

Insurance is a good reason you'll have to get it insurance for a custom car as well as reregistering it ot be custom instead of show (show cars are not legal to drive)

It is basically meant for one purpose and one purpose alone for this car: to keep it around since it is a rare item.

Admittedly most of the items that made it original are gone on the interior, but nonetheless, it was still a base body that was used in the show.

If you want a car that you can just drive around, then get a converted turnkey. But not an ORIGINAL vehicle. Would you like to buy this thing, and then be known as the person who put a dent in an original? Especially since the originals are so rare? You most likely will have an eye kept on you by fans. They will KNOW if you ding it, scratch it or otherwise.

So, yeah, it probably sucks, but it does show a slight difference in meaning. For those who want to own and preserve a piece of history, those are the ones that Mark seems to be enticing with his ad. Those who want a cruise mobile to cruise on down to Sonic to show it off...you are probably better off with a different car.

Yeah, he did gut most of the interier.

I thought he was going to "restore" and not "replace" most of the parts.

He admits though that the arcane technology of 1980s was beyond his experience, so it may have proved cheaper and easier to just swap his parts in.

If he had done a full restoration the car would be a lot more I imagine.

But, if you got the bucks I do believe it's a good price for what you are getting.
