Just wondering if the name Knight Rider is a trade mark? and to use it on anything do you have to get permission????

I don't think so unless you write it in the exact same font as KR was done in then Universal, I should imagine, would come calling.

Let me put it correctly: Knight Rider is a registered trademark of Universal Studios. If you put it on a website, then it sort of falls under fair use policy. (Still a fairly gray area of the law.) No matter what font you use. If you put it on something for resale, then you are in violation. So if you put it on something else, like a t-shirt, or something you intend to sell, then you have to get permission, and Universal generally sells that permission.

But generally licensing can cost upwards of over $1000, on the average.

there is this t shirt printer place that lives near me and you can get any transfer done, even prints of famous trademarks. it's only a little place so i'm sure they aint got the rights to it but i bet if i asked for KR with a picture of the car, i'm sure they would do it!

The newspaper company is Knight-RIDDER (which is the way it's supposed to be pronounced) which is the guy's name. It's just a coincidence it looks like Knight Rider.

Then, Knight Rider 2000, Knight Rider 2010 and Team Knight Rider actually did pay for the use of the name. (?)
And, how can I forget about those other ___ Rider movies out there that are very, very close to the name without being about a talking car(s).

jup, I know that this is hard for you to understand, but all the Knight Rider franchises were associated with Universal Studios, so obviously they didn't have to go far to get the permission.
As for all the others, they all most likely had legal clearances and such things, after all, that is what professional movie makers do. As for the combination of words 'Knight Rider' they are a registred trademark.

a little bit of trivia but OT: In the horror film 'texas chainsaw massacre' they covered up the model name of the chainsaw with sellotape to get away without getting caught for infringement of using a company tool in a movie. Usually the company wants money but to cheat their way out of it, they covered the name up. Now, they suspect it was one of three makes of saw. forget the names now though. but i thought that was interesting!
