Hey everyone:
I was watching/listening to some of MJKnight's and gang's comments regarding "Scent of Roses," which we all have discussed and we all know it could've been a season finale.
I'm not sure this has been discussed before, so forgive me, but I was thinking, why is it that "Goliath" and pretty much all the other season premieres set the tone for the season that followed, rather than "Scent of Roses" seems as if it was a stand-alone episode and all episodes that followed seemed to have no continuity to Michael's dealing with Stevie's death and how did he finally get "reborn" or "revitalized" of his purpose?
I think it would've been interesting if the writers had used "Scent" as a springboard to the final episodes and what led Michael to where we saw him in KR2000, "burnt out." I think the show would've survived, if the show focused on Michael dealing with his tragedy and how that would make him rethink about FLAG. Instead, they finished the season as "Stand alone" episodes. They had already proven that "sequels" and characters from the past did work for them, somewhat, with Goliath, Garthe, and Adrian Margo, so why did they just make this as if it was just one episode and he's fine kinda thing.
I know the writers were inconsistent in our least favorite season, but you would think the powers of be would want this episode to be the turning point for the rest of the series and wasn't the series cancelled because of lack of good stories and production?
The rest of the season and we could've had season 5 if they had just focused on Michael, as they did in season 1 and part of season 2.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
