* in terms of viewer awareness vs. intention to watch
NBC's publicity campaign is paying off. Variety reports that in term of "viewer awareness", Knight Rider is the most well-known new series this fall. That doesn't necessarily mean that people will like the show, but the first step is to make sure people know about it. In order to have a hit premiere, you want large viewer awareness and then, amongst those people who are aware of a show, a high percentage who "intend to watch". In terms of those two factors combined, Variety says that Knight Rider is the strongest of all the new fall series.
(JJ Abrams' "Fringe" has a higher "intend to watch" percentage, but lower viewer awareness.)

Re: New Knight Rider already the number one fall show*
I would imagine so since they did a bit of advertising during the Olympics and of course the TV movie did great ratings. Here's hoping the show is a hit and is able to hold an audience so we get more than 13 episodes and more than just a season or two.

The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great!

And let's not forget two NASCAR stints!
That there could have a great potential to bring in those who intend to watch the show.
