KITTs personality

Post by pheonix_knight » Thu Aug 21, 2008 1:24 pm

Has anyone else noticed that when referring to the original series we refer to KITT as a 'He...' but the new car is an 'it.....'??

I hope this is something the writers of the new series address and make the car feel more human. Even by the end of KOTP, fans already felt KITTs 'humanity' and personality which was accompanied by a sense of humour ("after all, WE'RE only human, right...?")

We've already been told that Ki3t will be gradually 'learning' throughout the series, which is going to be great and does make sense of the 'HAL' approach initially but we need to get the 'buddy factor' back.

What I mean by that is the way DH used to talk to KITT (calling him 'Pal or Buddy etc) or pat it like a horse etc, treating the car as another character rather than just a tool to get the job done...

Interesting observation, but I think it has a logical explanation.

We spend a lot of time talking about the new Attack KITT and the Mustang. We're discussing the physical car. I think people might say the same thing about the Knight 2000 as well:

"I didn't like the SPM KITT... It looked too much like a Transformer."
"I didn't like the SPM KITT... He looked too much like a Transformer."

Would you say "he" or "it"? I think I would go with "it".

If we talk about the storyline of the 2-hour movie then we're already going with "he". But you bring up a good point: if the producers talk about "the Attack KITT car" that definitely encourages people to use the term "it". But if they say "KITT in Attack Mode", then it suggests "he".

I'll try to start using my pronouns differently!

Yeah, it basically depends on whether you're referring to the AI or the car itself since they're, for the most part separate entities. Besides that, anyone who doesn't have an attachment or whatever to KITT would probably refer the AI "it" also as Carrie Rivai did near the end.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great! :skar:

I've always thought of KITT as a he. If he thinks, therefore, he is.
