New services are ready

Post by kittmaster » Mon Sep 12, 2005 9:39 pm

Hopefully this can become a sticky or added to the main site at the discretion of the admins.

Hi All,

As I'm sure most of have at least been to my website once, you know that I'm so far into the KR game and been there for quite a while. Most of you already know also that I specialize in electronics since 1986. And most already know that now I also TEACH college electronics for a living. So now that my basic resume is out of the way for both the old and the new, I now pass this along.

I've been designing and working circuit boards for almost 10 years now and I'm offering up services to create prototype boards for anyone who is interested.

Now there is a HUGE stipulation with this. I will NOT build or design ANY circuits that conflict with the basic packages that the major suppliers offer. This includes speedos, tachs, oil, etc etc. However, if there are circuits that outside that you'd like to INTEGRATE into the existing designs them I'm game for that.

I have all the tools to create the circuits from the schematic level all the way through to the finished prototype. The key word is "prototype". The boards themselves consist of fiberglass and copper. There are no plated holes which means that soldering must be done on both sides. The design files can be sent to any major manufacture to have full production boards completed if your satisfied with your prototype.

Because of the nature of prototyping, to put out a price quote would be premature. Most of the cost will be negotitated before any of the progress begins. Any prototype can be used in the automotive environment just as a full production board. The machines I use are from T-Tech and I've attach some images to show the quality of the machines that will actually create the final circuit board. These machines have a resolution down to 4 mils which is 4 thousandths of an inch! The accuracy of the machines have been measure at .25 mil offset, meaning that difference from what you have drawn on the computer screen to what actually comes out of the machine will be within .25 mils across entire design!

The machines can cut a board size up to 18 X 12 inches. All of the designs are dual layer, while multilayer can be done, that would skyrocket any price that may not make it worth your while. The more work that is done on the customer side i.e. you design it, lay it out, and just send me gerber data, the more cost effective it will be. The more work, the more the cost. Typically a prototype can run between $75-$500 depending upon what is needed and total machine time.

Well that's it for now, images are below, feel free to comment and pass this on to the mods.

OMG! He built an android CAT! Aw... that is so cute. ;)

Anyway, (sorry-- I have a soft spot for cats ;) )

It's good to see you, Chris! I am sorry I haven't been to your board in ages. I have been too busy with work (yes, I am working now ;) ) and what car forums I do go to. My car's new name is "Dryden" and he's doing quite well! Check out FuzzieDice.com for more info (in the Pontiac 6000 section).

I remember reading one time in one of the replica forums you designed a bootup-prom type KITT chip? How did that go? I remember it was quite expensive though (but with all that you put into it, I don't think it was too unfair an asking price).

I'm not quite in the market for circuits right now myself. I don't have the money. I'm also looking into a Via In-Dash computer project for my car, and updating the auto cruise and adding power to locks, seats, windows. And adding some light effects. :) Maybe bluetooth and cellular communications built in, GPS. My car project is coming along but slowly because of personal issues at home, and being busy at work, etc. So I haven't had time to do as much as I'd like to this year. Plus it was so HOT out this summer, that working on the car was nearly impossible most of the summer months. :(

I've seen some radar and microwave kits I think, at hobbytron.com which I was hoping to add to my car project. And add video and audio support. I already have an AI program I plan to use, but the program is soon to be upgraded to a new version and schema as soon as the programmer releases it. They're still working on it. It's called Ultra Hal Assistant. I *was* going to go with Linux for the PC but I'm actually liking Windows XP Pro so I'm thinking of doing that or Windows Vista if it's even more stable. The stability of XP Pro has been remarkable, even for my standards. :) And Ultra Hal Assistant only works in Windows anyway. This AI program has promise, and some have used it in other moveable robot projects, and even some automated car projects.

I wish you the best on your electronics services. I think this is an important service to those working with replicas and other robot/car projects. If you invent anything, patent it and you could be setting pretty. :)
