A lot of people have the "KNIGHT" license plates...actually a lot of people all over the world. It's because its so famous that people actually bid on them in ebay (most of them reproductions). But I don't think people in the US can actually use them on their vehicles because it still is a registered trademark of Universal Studios.

There was a trans-am being modified into a KITT replica at a gas station in Valley Stream (southwest Long island for those who aren't from New York) last year. It was in the parking lot for months, leading me to believe it was being worked on by someone affiliated with the gas station.
What was surprising was the car had New York "KNIGHT" plates...I got a close look and they looked as authentic as can be, they even had the reflective coating and state seal. Not only does the fact that it had both front and back plates as is the law in New York convince me further, but I saw the car being driven out for the night with those plates on so unless the guy was a lunatic, they were the real deal.
Its puzzling though how he secured them so fast...when I first saw the car there before the work started it was pretty banged up and looked burnt! I haven't seen it since but I think I'm gunna go back there sometime and find out what ultimately became of it, it looked like a really nice job from what I saw.

"KNIGHTS" this is my actual REAL license place number/lettering
on my personalised plate, i was planning to buy one of those
other plates, but i was thinking, why have a FIREBIRD
and fully or partially customise into KITT/KARR, and just have
plates just for show, than have the real deal.
"KNIGHTS" was on my 89 white TransAm, until
someone did NOT obey the traffic light on the most busiest
intersection and T-boned on the passenger side of my
soon-to-be-customised KITT (3000), hitting me, which
i had the right away proceed the turning lane, well, id survived
and still living to tell the story, but too bad i no longer
have the (White Rider), on the contrary,
id bought another FIREBIRD t-top as well, and i decided to
transfer my actual REAL plates from one Firebird to the next,
this one.
"KNIGHTS" So now, all im waiting on is get reinforcements (not the law),
some people from this forum and in my city n state and all over
to back me up and help me, complete my task in custom
my KARR or KITT (3000) fully repaired and restored on the road again.
my question.. Does anybody have a semi- mobile unit truck
to come into my city and pick me up?......

finalfadeout- I'VE SEEN THE ONE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! I live in Valley Stream, and you completely just reminded me of passing by a parking lot with a crappy looking K.I.T.T. replica in it! I caught a glimpse of it in the corner of my eye and said to myself "holy $%&#, that's KITT!"
Unfortunately I never got a good look at the car because I was on my way to work at the time or something where I couldn't stop and stare. I think I remember it just being a black Trans Am and just having the custom nose on it, I think I remember it having a homemade look, but I was so awestruck because that was the one and only time I've ever seen a K.I.T.T. replica on the road so I thought it was awesome that someone would modify their car like that. This was before I discovered the Knight Registries' website and found out about people all over the country with replicas.

That replica sounds familiar, I think the car you are talking about in Valley Stream is Scott Rice's replica (KNIGHT NY on the Knight Registries site). He's from New York and his car at the Knight Nationals did have NY state KNIGHT plates on them. It won best of show at the Knight Nationals this year. From what I have heard, his Trans AM is his original from back in the 80s, so he would have had quite an early jump on the plate name.

Why not just buy a reproduction plate from ebay? You may not get to use it on your vehicle (when you're ready to drive) but at least it will be true to the series with yellow lettering over the blue background. This color combination was prevalent during the 80's and is not used at the present. If I had a KITT or KARR replica, I would definitely want to have the yellow over blue colored plates.TurbomanKnight wrote:Damn!
