okay, just for the heck of it, I decided to remove all maps and I still got "some maps failed to load" message, but after that, on the map loading screen it now says "no maps available"
so with your updated maps it is seeing some maps, but not my area?
I'm on the east coast BTW... eastern standard time.

What state are you in particular?TheQuestion wrote:okay, just for the heck of it, I decided to remove all maps and I still got "some maps failed to load" message, but after that, on the map loading screen it now says "no maps available"

OK...I need to figure out what the hell is going on. It's not your fault or the way you are doing it. It's mine. I have to see where the maps update went wrong.
I have someone Beta testing some solutions right now. Stay tuned to this thread for more info.

oh sorry, I forgot that part: I'm in NY
something else interesting I just found:
with your 2009 maps, on the mio I opened up the mio desktop software to see what would happen, and it sees the maps that are on the device, it says they are installed.
and it knows which maps are there, it sees that Alaska/Hawaii and Canada are missing, but the rest of the US is there.
could something else be causing the unit to reject the maps?
maybe it's not the maps but the Polys? or the POIs?
is it looking for a device id or some kind of product key?
I don't know a lot about how these things work, but I am learning fast
I do know this is a genuine unit, because I bought it at Radio Shack and it works fine with the miomore software.

It might be trying to look for the hardware key on your unit. Look in your code for an unique ID number. Look in your old mapshigh.xml on your backup and compare it with mine in the zip. Then compare that with the one in the mydrive directory.TheQuestion wrote:oh sorry, I forgot that part: I'm in NY

I know if we can figure this out, a lot of fans will be very happy
I'm gonna do the best i can to help this along
I looked and I found no device id or reference to it in any of the mapshigh.xml files.
I even tried using a copy my original mapshigh.xml edited with the names of the 2009 maps
Polys and POIs and I get the same result.
there is what seems like a device id in the device.xml on the root folder of the unit
but if other people got this to work, that can't be it.
I can go back to my old maps without a problem...
delete the poly, POI and maps folder and the mapshigh.xml
and replace them with my back up and it works perfectly
I even left the curmaps.xsd and shapefiles folder where the instructions told me to and they don't even interfere with the original maps.
it's probably something so simple we are overlooking it.
I know you said a while back that the unit was based on miomap 2008
this guy unlocked the mio using a file we don't have; called miomap.ini
http://navmanunlocked.wikispaces.com/MioMap2008" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
it looks like the same software we have
and he says it's a navman clone
so why don't we have a miomap.ini file?
maybe if the core software of the unit were cracked
it would run other newer teleatlas, navman igo or mio maps and still use the KITT voice for navigation?
maybe the key is to take a closer look at the smartst_ce program?
maybe we can replace it with a different version that will run the maps without a problem?

Dang...looks like I missed the files! I just tried to login and login failed. Anyone plan on re-hosting these files for those that missed the 3 day window?

I'm on it. Remember: Tao is working on the maps as they didn't seem to work for everyone.
I have made a new archive called version 4.1 with my graphics updates and I am PM'ing those interested with a link to download.

Re: (READ) Last G P S mod post!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... the graphics I posted earlier in this thread.
Also a few other little things like the "thinking" circle being replaced by KITT's scanner, and a leveling out of the volume on some of the key tones as they were a little jarring in Tao's 4.0 version (like commercials interrupting a quiet TV show).
Other than that, it's identical.

oh cool.
awesome. I used the two graphics you posted earlier.
I wonder if we can replace the still frame image with an animated one for the voice box splash

Re: (READ) Last G P S mod post!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I looked into that actually. There is such a thing as an animated .png, but only the newest browsers (firefox 3.0, Opera 9.5) support it, and I'm still using Photoshop 7.0, which only saves animations as .GIF files.TheQuestion wrote:I wonder if we can replace the still frame image with an animated one for the voice box splash
There is an online APNG assembler here: http://animatedpng.com/index.php/assembler/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but the real challenge would be getting the unit to recognize and utilize the animation information without a major overhaul of the base software.

when the unit does a full boot, it plays the animated MIO logo with the orange background
I did not see that file in my back up of the units files.

Re: (READ) Last G P S mod post!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the Mio animation must be part of the BIOS boot, so I don't think we can get at that.
I have been trying to create a new .WMV file in the exact screen dimensions. I'm hitting a wall though because even though everything plays perfectly on my laptop, when I transfer it over to the mio, it gets all choppy. Not the audio, just the video. it's a 480x272 WMV file at 29.97fps, just like the original, so I'm not sure why the audio is perfect and the video is choppy. Like I said, the WMV file plays perfectly in Windows Media Player on my laptop, so maybe it's a WMP9 issue?
I'll have to do more tomorrow, I've lost enough sleep for one night.

It will always do that. Thats why I made the 'binary animation' the way that I did so it will not get choppy.
I know you want to improve on my hacks and all, but I wouldn't change too much.
The mods and hacks I did were very deliberate on what was being changed.

could it be the codec?
perhaps this can be fixed with slower encoding? multiple passes?

I'm toying around with combinations of frames per second and bit rate and I'm pretty close. Trust me, it's worth perfecting. I think you'll approve.

These mods sound pretty cool. I ordered my Mio on boxing day and it just arrived, can anyone with the files needed to mod this Mio Kitt300 send me a pm or link to the pot of gold?
Thanks!

Re: (READ) Last G P S mod post!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anyone know which file needs to be changed so when kitt is speaking and the 2 vertical LEDs are flashing I can have the animation of the horizontal LEDs going back and forth (or something else, even a picture)...? I changed out the audio files with Tao's 4.1 which was great but now a few of the audio files are pretty long and the plain black screen that is displayed while audio is being played "needs something"
Thanks!
Thanks!

Okay people, please don't pepper me with PMs and Emails asking me a bunch of questions that have all been covered already in this thread. Read the WHOLE THREAD and please address questions to Taoworm IN THIS THREAD. I am just re-hosting.
Thanks.

Alright, I gave up on all the transitions and effects I was using to make the startup video and just went with the meat and potatoes:
http://sweetbackgroove.com/KRGPS/WMV9_480%20x%20272.wmv
replace the wmv file of the same name in your unit's /Program Files/System/ directory.
enjoy!
