Calling all Mid-Atlantic/Northeast fans...

Post by KFCreator » Sun Jul 12, 2009 9:57 pm

Hey everyone, I just got back yesterday from a sci-fi convention in Hunt Valley, MD called Shore Leave, which is one of 2 larger annual sci-fi conventions held in the Washington DC area. This was the second year my wife and I had been to this one, and this upcoming January will be the third time we have attended the other convention, called Farpoint. Both conventions are awesome, if for no other reason than the TV and movie stars they attract. Yesterday my wife and I got to meet Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips of Star Trek: Voyager fame but other notable guests included Chistopher Heyerdahl, Vanessa Angel, Adrienne Wilkinson and Rachel Luttrell. As anyone who's ever been to a sci-fi convention knows, all types of TV shows and movies are represented there, from Star Trek and Star Wars to LOST and Smallville. The one franchise that is always notably absent though? Our beloved series, Knight Rider. Having been to the last few conventions, I honestly wasn't surprised that the classic series had no presence there but after coming off of the heels of the new series, I at least hoped someone there would have pictures of the cast for sell or T-shirts or buttons or just something, anything.

This got me to thinking about why Knight Rider has no presence at these types of shows/events and I realized that while we have some truly awesome events of our own like Knight Rider Festival and KnightCon, it would be great if we could organize at least a few die-hard fans to show up at these types of conventions and show that we do have a presence still and we want to draw in others. I know that a couple of years ago a small Knight Rider convention called the Mid-Atlantic Knight Rider Summit was held in the same area of Maryland, just a few miles from where these other sci-fi conventions are held and was wondering who here on this board would have an interest in not only meeting up at a future convention but maybe also see if anyone with a replica within a radius of about 400 miles would be willing to come and show off their car? Trust me, it would attract a huge crowd. Someone yesterday had a DeLorean in the process of being converted to a Back to the Future replica and it was badass.

I'd also like to see, if we could gather even just a few people, if we could organize a table at a convention to showcase memorabilia or sell merchandise or just make ourselves known. I also am going to contact the showrunners of both conventions and suggest they try to get both classic and new Knight Rider stars to come sign autographs and maybe talk on stage. It would amazing if that could happen and I know that if the fans on the West Coast can band together to put together Knight Rider Festival, we East Coast fans can put together a good showing here in the mid-Atlantic.

So, who's interested? :-)
