KI3T and Self-Programming
When KI3T talked about KARRs ability to self-program, i started thinking about KI3Ts tranformations and a question popped into my head.
Is KI3T self-programming when he transforms to mimic a car? Like the police car or the FLEX?
We know that the track, attackt mode, the sub and the van were algorithmic programs, designed by Sarah or Charles. But it seems that when he transformed into the cop car and the Flex, he was mimicing the car's design.
If they were programs already placed into his system, wouldn't that mean he's programming himself to take the new form?
This is just a therory, it could be wrong...

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
Faithful Car KRO, you have a point. But I think that he probably has the ability to mimic and have pre-programmed abilities. If he was pre-programmed, I bet Charles loves those Fords. I guess he can mimic those designs.
Congratulations!By reading this signature,KITT's AWESOMENESS has increased by ONE POINT!

Both of those were programs so that Mike could complete his missionsJJSoCrazy wrote: - Don't forget the E-Series Van in Hard Day's Knight

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
The ability to morph into different vehicles is not the ability to self program. It's merely the ability to reconfigure his body between different modes. If he were to change his dominant program the preservation of human life now that's self programming.

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
but is each transformation mode permanently stored in KI3T, or is it wiped after each mission and replaced with whatever they'd need for the next one?
and how come nobody noticed the big red scanner in the front of the Flex in that casino scene? Plus did KI3T have the Flex program uploaded to him - or did he choose to use it himself after he saw that flyer/poster with teh competition?
Also - what about his transforming into the pink striped convertible (Knight of the Living Dead)? Surely that wouldn't have been programmed for him as a Hallowe'en "costume"?

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
Self-programming would be the ability to change one's base programming. KI3T is designed to preserve human life and obey Michael Knight. He has to follow these base rules - if he were able to disregard these rules, or augment them, then he would be self-programming. KI3T cannot do this.
It's similar to Robocop - Robo is governed by his three directives, and he cannot deviate from them. However, he self-programmed in Robocop 3 by removing a directive.
KI3T is an AI designed to learn and adapt to his surroundings - but he can't overwrite his base programming, his foundation. His transformations have nothing to do with these base rules, so it's not self-programming. Rather, KI3T is assimilating data and transforming it into a usable algorithm for his, uh, transformation matrix (?). I suppose that KI3T can use pre-programmed data, or create data on the fly by analyzing a vehicle.
Hope that made sense.

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
Actually, IIRC Robocop didn't remove that directive, it was deleted while he was repaired. It's been a long while since I saw Robocop 3 though so I might be wrong.
But yeah, I agree that it has to do with his base programming and primary directives. I said as much in my post in the other topic though I think you said it better.

Re: KI3T and Self-Programming
I thought that he removed it himself, but you're right, it did happen while he was being repaired....so yeah, maybe he didn't program himself. I do remember the scene where he had the conflicting directives and was attacked because he hesistated (rocket to the chest, ouch!) but I also don't remember much other than that. Re-watching the Robocop movies is on my things-to-do list.
