Kudos to Justin ("A Hard Day's Knight")

Post by Michael Pajaro » Thu Oct 16, 2008 12:59 am

When the 2-hour movie aired, I listed the casting of Justin Bruening as one of the "Top Five Things They Got Right". But to be honest, so far in the series he hasn't been given a lot to do as an actor. Until tonight.

The most important job of an actor is to make you believe what is happening on screen. And I BELIEVED Michael Knight was sick, and was getting sicker. And Justin was showing pain AND humor at the same time, which is a pretty tough thing to do. I think he really nailed it.

I'm not saying Justin is the next Sir Laurence Olivier. But tonight he confirmed for me that when he's not doing all of the tongue-in-cheek dialog (which we all love), he can more than handle some heavier stuff.

JB is absolutely perfectly cast as the son of Michael Long. Just the right amount of tongue in cheek in his portrayal, the only thing thats missing is him referring to Kitt as 'buddy' or 'pal' and patting the car like a horse.

I do believe he called him buddy in the BD pilot. I think it was "sorry buddy this is gonna hurt."
But your right, we do need to see more of him patting KITT.

Well, calling KITT buddy was one of the things I love in the pilot and it is missing so far in the series.

Justin is the only reason why I personally gave this episode a 9 out of 10 score. I actually felt for him when he got sicker and sicker, and when he was dying on the highway I felt somewhat like my gut was wrenched out. The tension and feel of this entire episode is just right, and they need to keep it going for the next episodes.

On the other side, Zoe and Billy gets back to being annoying this episode. I do feel that they have a GREAT cast in KR, it's only that the writings doesn't give them enough chance to shine. If they wrote Zoe like the Iguana episode and wrote Mike like this Hard Day's episode and do so for all the other actors in the show, then it will be a truly great show. Now the writers know how to use Justin to the full potential, let's hope for the other cast to follow suit...

...or just return to the one man can change the world thing, cause Justin is just so damn good! :good:

Agreed. This ep, more than the others, have allowed Justin to show us a wide range of emotions and reactions in different situations. Kudos to his acting in this one. :)

you know, I'm still having a hard time with how big the cast is- from week to week, at least 1 character is missing, and i don't find myself missing them. Last night, i was glad to see that Zoe was out in the field, but why was she there, exactly? Zoe is a cipher to me. I think i warmed up to alex a little bit; Sarah is turning into a "Jill of all trades", and it's starting to annoy me. First she's a scientist who works on KITT; then she fights. and drives. and shoots. What do we need Carrie Rivai for then? I'd probably like the characters better if they were more clearly defined, and showed a real purpose on this show.
KITT: I walked right into that one, didn't I?
Michael: More like Turbo Boosted.

I agree with you on getting the charachters clearly defined in their roles, however in this case there was no choice but to have Sarah come help and save Michael. On the other hand the other episodes I assume were built this way to have a so called "team" to back him up.

You know I hope the producers didn't forget the whole notion that "one man can make a difference", if you want a team go get team knight rider. If this show is called Knight Rider it's going to have to be a man and his car making a difference. (For the 100th time lol)

I think by either the end of the initial 13 episodes or by the end of the season there will be a couple characters written out. I agree that there are just too many for a 40-42 minute show such as this unless they can find a better balance that should primarily be focused on Mike and KITT with Charles and Sarah behind them. At first I was all for something happening with the Torres and Zoe characters, ending up with their removals or whatever but now I think I might actually miss seeing Smith Cho every week. So I'll go with Carrie and Torres aka the Government just getting the boot and Zoe turning on Torres. Though that still might be too many characters, I guess Billy could bite it because so far I don't care either way what happens to the character, he's written too over the top to me in a lot of places though I think he could be useful.
The new and again improved evil's advertisement is currently too long and too badass to display here. But let's just say that with now 50% more evil, this **** is great! :skar:

Agreed he more than proved himself in this episode... And I loved how KITT tried to cover Michael and Sarah at the end as well, looks like a relationship of sorts between the 3 is certainly forming. I think KITT knows Torres is shady and will never really trust him or warm up to him especially knowing that he is hiding something about Michael's past which is an ongoing and interesting subplot apparently for the remainder of this season. :good:

I just realized Mike kissed KITT on his roof.. :good: Thats about as good as a pat for me.
Now I wonder if that cop car wasn't KITT how many cars would Mike walk up and ask, lol. His father had it a little bit easier when it came to finding his car.
