Variety Reports Knight Rider Picked Up as a Series

Post by Knight Rider Archive » Tue Mar 11, 2008 10:59 am

In an article about a successful New York acting coach, Variety makes mention that Justin Bruening's Knight Rider has been picked up as a series by NBC for the fall:
"...Justin Bruening, who made such an impact on the two-hour pilot of "Knight Rider" last month that Peacock has picked it up for series."
The whole story can be found at the following link:

Of course, we still haven't had any official word, so this might not be accurate. Can an official announcement be far off?

I think that article jumped the gun a bit. There were other articles before the movie aired saying that it would be back as a series.

Although I am completely confident that it will go to series (whether in the Fall or in 2009), I wouldn't use this article as proof just yet. The official word will most likely be in April when NBC announces its new 52-week schedule.

I don't know if this was already posted, but the end of this Baltimore local news clip seems to suggest that the show was picked up as well.

By the way, Is that guy someone that posts here? Since I'm new, I have no idea.

That sounds pretty goood. If you read the article Its a quote from NBC's head of casting Marc Hirschfeld. So this could be proof it is one.

I did some work checking in on this issue and I have been told as Michael suggested to wait until NBC's official announcements in April. It appears quite a few people are jumping the gun on this issue (including the media) and Marc Hirschfeld would not be the first to know for sure if the series was confirmed. The Wardrobe department would be the first to know if the series was picked up because they would have to start creating costumes for the cast way in advance of production.

Until you hear someone in Wardrobe make a statement, take it with a grain of salt until NBC announces their new 52-week schedule in April.

The Wardrobe Indicator holds more true for epic films like Lord of the Rings or the Star Wars movies when they needed to create hundreds or thousands of costumes (at least in the pre-CGI days.) With Knight Rider, they could pretty much send Justin to the Galleria with a Banana Republic gift card and be done with it. If you really want the early, inside scoop you have to go where the money is: talk to people in Payroll. Contracts. Licensing. They'll be the ones doing the real early work.

Probably 'following the money' WOULD be the best early indicator. I believe that the writer's room is the first thing to be put together; they're usually at it for weeks or even months before the rest of the production ramps up. After all, you need to know what your costuming and building sets FOR before you costume and build sets. Still, an entity needs to be created first to pay anyone involved in the production, so indeed, going where the money is seems like the smart play.
