Take a ride in "undercover KITT". Only fifty cents

Post by jup » Fri Feb 07, 2003 3:41 pm

Yesterday, I stumbled across another one of those kiddie ride KITT's outside of a supermarket. It looked to be in pretty decent shape. I believe that the original kiddie ride dash was still in it, too. In fact, this one looked like it only has a paint job alteration done to it. (Though, I suspect that the record (or whatever is used in those things) was altered. I didn't want to pop 2 quarters in the thing to find out, especially after walking right by some guy collecting for something.) Funny thing is, it's right across the street from where I work. Go figure.

I'll take the camera with me and snap off a few shots.

I never seen a Knight Rider kiddie ride before.

Is there any way you can post these snap shots, that would be awesome!

Thanks :D

You probably have, you just didn't know it. The vast majority of these KR rides were painted over (some actually became pink) and the only reason why we know they are KITT's, is because they have scanners in them, even if they are pepto bismol pink. (Yes, the one I found here in New Mexico is pink, and it bugs me.)

You and a few other friends should go out on a night mission and repaint it black. :)

Or, repaint it silver and black. And change the scanner to yellow. And put in a digital voice recording of KARR saying "I am the Knight Automated Roving Robot. KARR, if you prefer."

Yeah, right in front of where I used to work, there's one that is painted orange. Yikes. :(

Whoever did the paint job on this one did a decent job. I don't remember what the main color was, but it was given some flashy racing stripes and such, as if the painter was trying for an eye catching design. I'll see about bringing the digital camera with me on one of my trips over there in the next few days. Then, I can post the images on-line and in here.

Here's the pics again of the one by me. One of these days I'm gonna put a quarter in just to see what sound comes out.

Took longer than I expected to snap and process those photos. But, at last, here they are...

And, wouldn't you know it. I ran across ANOTHER former KITT ride in another town, yesterday. Gee. I thought these things were suppose to be somewhat rare???

My first guess at that one would be that by changing the KR basic black Trans-Am style over to something more colorful/flashy, it might grab attention to itself and earn more cash. Of course, why do they bother undoing the scanner coloring?
