Found an interesting photo from KR2K.
What did they use for the cover on the scanner so it wouldn't look clear?
It does look like they at least used a lower wattage bulbs.

Judging by the pattern on the lense, it looks like a tail light cover
or a third brakelight lense of some kind. Dulled it right down.
and personally, I thought the eye ball was stupid.

I agree. Not only did K.I.T.T. never have that, but his scanner always acted as his "eyes." So there's no reason for the eye ball. But then again they did show a stock Firebird steering wheel and a weird pipe in the crate full of parts, too. Either they didn't know or think any fans would notice what parts K.I.T.T. was supposed to have.

I thought the scanner was just for KITT to view things forward and to use to analize objects... I guess they wanted KITT to be able to "actually see inside the vehicle", hence what the scanner wasn't suppose to be able to do....

Since they dug KITT out of a heap, perhaps it's fair to assume that they couldn't find some parts for him to activate and function properly so they got the "eye" as a substitute part?
I go with that theory just to keep things in order.
