AFAIK, KITT's scanner sound is not original, it came from the late 70's sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica (also from Universal Studios). The Cylons there had a red scanner on their heads just like KITT, and it also sounds the same. I think Glen Larson liked the scanner and sound effects from that show and incorporated it in Knight Rider.

Actually,
KITT scanner sound was recreated after the Pilot Epsiode. In the Pilot
episode, they used the same Cylon warble (scanner sound) as in
Battlestar Galactica.
Once the series was picked up, they changed the scanner sound into
what we recognize today! Deeper, louder, and not as robotic as in
Battlestar.
Just a bit of trivia for you all.

I thought that KITT's scanner sounded different from "Galactica". The Cylons' eye scanner sounded more like a flute or the sound from one of those old "Star Wars" lightsaber toys where the sword was hollow inside.
If you don't make a difference, you are not the Knight Rider.

Re-read my post. KITTs scanner sound was different than Battlestar
with the exception of the Pilot Episode. In the Pilot, they used the
cylon style warble sound effect. That changes once the series aired.
Sorry for the confusion.......

This begs the question. How was the sound originally created?
I noticed that on Knight Rider The Game the have the sound while you go through certain menu selections & its very clean. Of course, I'm sure hat it's fully digital at this point.

Thats what I was refering to. I should have specified myself a bit more.
The original promo cut together (the begining) had the cylon sound.
Thanks for the correction.
