Hi there. Does anyone know what the lights either side of the Voice Modulator indicate (S1, S2, P1 - 4)? Just wondering.

Cheers, Ozzy.

Here's my idea:

Air and Oil: no comment

S1 and S2: Systems and Backup Systems

P1, P2, P3, P4: Processors/CPU-s. Kitt is possibly a multi-CPU configuration, or at least I think so...

Lol.

In the season 3-4 alt and aux could be backup systems.

If I remember right, in the pilot episode, at least once Devon mentioned the "Knight 2000" as having "microprocessors". Mainly when Michael first got into KITT.

So it means that yes, KITT has several processors.

Today, many cars have more than one processor to work all the bells and whistles such as lights, security, seat, A/C, cruise control, etc. etc. I don't remember how far back that goes though. I think maybe only 2000 or so, maybe earlier. My car only has an Engine Control computer with a PROM chip with table-type data for the computer to compare sensor readings to pre-programmed information. And my car was built in 1987. Then again, mine is a base model.

Back in '82 though, KITT's multi-processing system would have been quite futuristic for that time. :)
