The Final Scene in "Sky Knight"

Post by Joe Huth » Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:20 am

I just happened to notice something interesting at the very end of "Sky Knight". Take a look at KITT when the Sheriff is trying to give him a ticket. You can clearly see that this is a "blind drive" car...see the lump behind the driver's seat:

Image

Now, why would they have the blind drive car in a scene where KITT doesn't even move? I checked the script, and this is how the scene ends on paper:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
AMOS
The joke's on you buster, now I'm
the only sworn officer in these here
parts to ticket a talkin' car??? It
just don't get any better'n that,
sonny!

A moan from K.I.T.T. as he begins moving down the street.

Amos hustles after him.

AMOS
I'll teach you respect for law and
order if it's the last thing I do!

On Michael, Devon, Bonnie and Nick's laughter, we:

FREEZE FRAME

FADE OUT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the script, KITT drives off. I bet this was a scene that was filmed but cut for time. Cool, huh?

I only wish Universal or Glen Larson could dig through the vaults long and hard, and I mean really long and hard, and find all of the original dailies, outtakes, un-used footage, etc, as well as all of the original NBC promos and commercials.

Joe, I've just sent you a PM. I'd really appreciate a reply. :D And btw, 'SKY KNIGHT' is one of my favourite episodes from the entire series - a highlight of the 4th and sadly final year.

I'm confused. You say he doesn't move but in the scene in bold it says he beings moving...?

Maybe that's why the blind drive?

Also, I don't think I ever recall KITT ever "moaning" in any of the shows, but then again often the scripts are not exactly the same as the final show is.

I'll have to watch that one again sometime... Interesting info!

Kitt's moaned, sang, breathed, chewed (in Goliath he was chewing as if to taste something in his mouth when he got battered).

And KARR has yawned.

FuzzieDice,

I probably didnt make myself clear - the lines I wrote above are from the script, not the actual episode. So, in the script, it says KITT drives away, but on the episode, KITT just sits there. However, in the episode, you can see that the car they use as KITT has a "blind drive" driver's seat...so that leads me to believe that they filmed the scene with KITT moving, but cut it from the episode.

Ah, that clears it up. Thanks Joe. :) I wonder how much gets cut sometimes.

In fact, in the Trust Doesn't Rust on the Season 1 DVDs, for instance, during KITT's conversation, KARR and KITT never had the conversation about "being two of a kind is even more special". And yet I recall that line from somewhere. Was it only in the novel (which I also have)? Or did that actually air? If it aired, why wasn't it on the DVD?

So many questions. :)

Skav - I don't remember too much of these sounds, so I'll mention what I do remember. If you know of others, let me know so I can go look for them. :)

I remember KITT 'wah wah'd' in one episode and Michael said it's gonna be a long trip.

I remember only one 'breath' was in Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death while in the semi he was talking about the bomb going off on one of the cars.

As for the "chewing" sound, I didn't happen to notice. But could it have been crackling circuits and shorting out, or the crunching of his MBS under the pressure?

And the only time I hear anything close to moaning is when he said "Not again!" when he was annoyed at something, I think that one with the aligator in it that kept coming after him.

Were there others?

in a very common sound clip that goes " I am the voice of the Knight industries two thousands micro proccesor. K.I.T.T. for easy referance, KITT if you prefer"

If you listen to the clip (or the episode) You can here "KITT" or William Daniels taking a breath before he says the speech
Devon-"Shall we drink to the start of.."
Michael-"Of what?"
Devon-"One mans Dream"

I think in Goliath its the crackling of the circuits it just turned out to sound like chewing.

There was a bit in Goliath where Kitt's voice kinda fazed out a bit due to cracking circuits but when kitt says "So, vulnerable, so mortal" when michael is looking through the blueprints, he makes that chewing noise.

It's just after when michael says "i thought putting a barbecue together was hard".

Kitt has also taken a breath when speaking to Michael at the end of 'Big Iron' when they are talking about human reactions.

And, the same thing in the pilot episode when kitt says "I am the voice of knight industries 2000". He breathes there to speak the words.

When John is connecting KARR's cable together to activate karr at the beach in KVK, karr yawns.

:D

Skav - I still think the crackling in Goliath isn't "chewing" but circuits going bad. Maybe also while he's talking. Maybe for effect. I don't know. Why would KITT want to make such a noise, even if Michael mentioned BBQs, it still doesn't make sense. Only think I can think of is shorting out circuits.

As for the breath sounds, I forgot about those, you're right. :)

It was funny when KARR yawned. Shows KARR sometimes has an indeliberate sense of humor. :)

FuzzieDice, when thinking about it, you are probably right about the crackling of the circuits instead of chewing but I thought, as the series progressed, KITT began to have feelings and emotions and they made kitt more human like. So that's why I tend to think he chewed(to maybe symbolise kitt tasting blood in his mouth?), it was all to make him seem more human.

But maybe what I'm saying is all far fetched, I don't know.

I loved that part in KVK as well with karr's yawning. I get tingly watching that, because it was like a angry yawn. A good entrance for karr. :D

I think in KVK it was more like KARR was testing his voice again since it had been disconected for so long. Kind of how a person clears their throat before speaking.
Flyer Guy: "You really a talking car?"
KITT: "No. I'm a tight end for the Chicago Bears!"

I find it somewhat odd that John and Mandy didn't hear KARR yawn, even though they were both in the car when he did this.
"I have one problem: I don't know how to fly a helicopter!"

"Maybe you should've thought of that before you climbed onto it?"

Actually Jon and Mandy were still outside of the car. Jon had reached in, connected the cable and then came back out to talk to Mandy to get her to get into the car, etc.

Skav - I never thought of the tasting blood type thing. Maybe he was spitting? :)

Another thing occurred to me when you mentioned him becoming more human, is you know how some people may make a 'smaking' sound just before they start to speak, like a 'tsk' type thing? Maybe KITT could have been doing that too... ?
