I gave up on using the airbrush since I ran out of propellant so quickly, trying to faff around with the right paint thickness, the air/paint mixture etc. So I've bought some Tamiya spray paints.

Gave the car some quick coats over the weekend. Coupla issues:

1. Orange peel dimpling in some areas. "Rough" textured paintwork over others. I originally tried to airbrush the shell but ran into problems. Tried to go over it with the spray paint. How do I end up with a smooth finish? Do I need to sandpaper the rough areas? Or use a rubbing cloth?

2. Other areas I believe I went a bit too thick (tried to avoid the orange-peel problem). Now some areas look like the paint's been oozing down. Again, how to remedy this issue?

So close to finishing, yet so far!

Did you sand the model after trying with an air brush?? Some paints react with each other and can cause orange peeling.

Also, i'ts better to do lots of light coats first, leaving like a powder effect on the model. this gives a base for the rest of the paint to stick to. Then for the final coat, build up to a high gloss while not putting as much on so that it runs and drips.

You can also use real auto spray paint on models. this dries quicker allowing multiple coats to be applied quicker. This then hardens as it would on a car and can be t-cutted and polished in the same way.

Hope this helps
