Question regarding Lazer machine guns fired on KITT and KARR

How come in the story "Trust doesn't Rust" from Season 1, A laser was designed to use to fire and blow KARR's front scanner and all his circuitry even though on both attempts they tried were both failures!
And also remember the modified lazer which was used in "K.I.T.T V K.A.R.R in Season 3.

I was thinking in "Knight Strike" later in Season 3 where another type of laser was used and it was fired at KITT's front scanner it may have knocked it out but it didn't effect his other circuitry and main functions?

Perhaps it was some other type of laser which maybe didn't have the same effect as the one in Trust doesn't Rust???

I wonder if any KR fans out there have any theories on this? :?

Maybe they upgraded KITT so that nothing could harm him via the scanner?

It doesn't seem logical (if I may use the word, as such) that a shot in a scanner would knock out all the circuitry in a robot car. IIRC, the CPUs are located under the cars, so it would be hard to shoot out a CPU as well. An extremely high voltage charge ANYWHERE on such a car might short out all circuits, however. If the car has an engine control computer (different from the AI system) then that would be another thing to shoot for, but hard if they are located behind the glove box. Another good place to shoot is the batteries. No power, no computer, car can't run or think. ;)
