I found out how KITT drives on his own

I just bought the season 1 dvd last week and it's great I love it. But now that I watch it carefully I see that there is someone siting inside of KITT's driver's seat when KITT is driving by himself. You can tell because the driver's seat is so much fatter then the passengers plus in one sceen towards the end of the Knight if the Phoenix when KITT drives himself to the gas station where Michael Knight was waiting for him after the thugs stole KITT. As KITT drives into the gas station and gets real close to the camera you can see the person's hands, wihch have been covered by the fabric of the seat, are on the steering wheel when when the car stops the hands come off of the steering wheel. It's so funny, if you don't know what I mean just watch the end of Knight of the Phoenix.

Yea, it kinda ruines it don't it. But that's when the kid inside comes back and you still think Kitt is real and you forget you seen someone driving kitt. I honestly thought Kitt was Radio controled and not someone driving him, I think there was so many episodes were he was radio controlled, but I can't prove it.

I have somewhere on my computer a photo of the actual drivers-side seat used. I've had this photo for a few years now I'll try to find & post it here later when I get home.

Well, now its possible for KITT to be driven via remote control. There was a stunt in "2 Fast 2 Furious" which required it. It was the pink Honda S-2000 that jumps the bridge, which was done by rigging up a remote unit and had someone driving it from behind another vehicle (this is shown in some in the making-of featurette on the DVD).

Yeah I also heard that KITT was remote controlled so I used to think that KITT was remoted controlled in all the episodes.

Sorry to say that there where no remote controlled KITTs used in
the show. They alternated those stunt seats between the driver and passenger side ot hey used models. That technology would have
been to expensive for that era.
On a lighter note, they used the same stunt seat driving for Austin
Powers Goldmember begining. The Shaguar was driving by itself
and he parachutes into the car. You couldn't see the stunt guy at
all. and it was an open convertable too. Very well done. Only of
Knight Rider had hidden the stunt guy as well.

knightdriver- I think they actually used the stunt man driving the car from the trunk trick. Back in the late 80s, they had a stunt show where they showed how some stunts were done. They had one show that they showed a driverless BMW pull up to a stop as a woman was walking up to it and get in. They showed that a stuntman was hidden in the trunk of the car and controlled all the steering, accellerating and braking through leaves and a small wheel installed in the trunk.

Well, I am sure that is how the Austin Powers was dopne as there is no room behind the drivers seat for a stunt guy.
Knight Rider how ever had no truck room for a stunt guy, so they ended
up with the above stunt seat. Worked for the 80's. Today, they would
have to fool us with new tricks. I like the remote controlled idea myself!

i always wondered if the car in back to the future was really remote controlled at the beginning. im assuming since it was dark and you really couldnt see inside the car, that it was not.

On the Australian version of season 1 there is an interview called Knight Moves with Jack Gill (the Stunt Director) who does admit that he drove KITT. I believe he was lying in the right hand back seat when KITT drives himself etc. You guys are right it does take some of the magic out of it.

Seeing that picture really sucks, but I never really catch the mistakes and things and I hope I never do. KITT will always be the best in my mind!!

the not so obvious mistakes are what do it for me.. seeing the crew members in the paint of the car.. seeing the shadows of the matte box on the film camera.. those things are harder to find and more rewarding...

Since Doc's dog was supposed to be the only occupant and the DeLorean didn't have a traditional trunk or a real backseat, they slapped a stunt driver in a dog suit and shoved him into the car for the scenes when Doc is driving the car by R/C. [/geek]
That's a cool picture of KITT's stunt driver! Poor guy--he looks like he's in a baby seat!

The big question is; WHO DROVE THE SEMI???
Before RC3, that is. And how could RC3 leave the cab IN TRANSIT??? And he was watching TV with his legs up on the dash while he was supposed to be driving...did they ever explain the semi??

I actually think that they had an autopilot in the semi!!!!

Autopilot in the semi was introduced in the 4th Season. There was an episode where RJ was watching a basketball game with his feet up. A group of biker hi-jacked the truck thinking it was filled with Whisky.
