Or something like that. I think Mike Pajaro was the one who posted about this last year, but DARPA is again sponsoring a contest to get a self-navigating robot vehicle across the desert between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Seems like this is a yearly thing. There is a guy that frequents the Zabaware.com forum who says he's in some project at DARPA creating a self-navigating vehicle using the Ultra Hal Assistant program. He seems to have made references to KITT and Knight Rider so I guess he's a fan. I did try to contact him a couple times in e-mail without luck, however. Unfortunetly, I fogot his name. I guess I'm too lazy at the moment to search their forum for "KITT".
I would love to find out if/when a DARPA vehicle actually completes a course. So far none have yet. Hopefully each year will be one step closer.

Well, K.I.T.T. would be the perfect choice. After all, I think the famous opening desert scene was filmed in that area. It would be pretty cool to re-create it all over again.
