Well,
I am sure Mike (KITT-X) will welcome your comments freely once you
show him your car! OH WAIT, you don't have one.
Don't critisize someone elses hard work just because you don't like it.
Having an opinion is one thing, but your post was really un needed.
Most people like Mikes car and what he has done to it. Creative freedom
doesn't hurt anything.

The front nose on my car might not look totally accurate but it looks nice, my foglights dont look exactly as they did in season 1 but they are close, plus i like them, sometimes you just cant get it all totally right unless you have wads of cash to get all the correct parts really.
im not gonna be putting a set of the correct wheels on my car for a long time and have decided to leave the gold GTA wheels on, again, something a bit different.
sometimes its more about personal preferance then accuracy, like mikes KITT-X, im sure he could put a cowl scoop on it anytime he wants but like i say, the ram air hood was his personal choice to go with something a bit different and it looks badass !

i on the other hand will be putting the correct wheels on mine. but thats only because there are 3 junk yards very close to where i live and they sell wheels for $35 a piece and have those all the time. i SHOULD be buying them up and selling them for the OUTRAGEOUS prices they go for on eBay...but i'm too lazy. i'll be happy to just get my own set : )Newcastle knight wrote:The front nose on my car might not look totally accurate but it looks nice, my foglights dont look exactly as they did in season 1 but they are close, plus i like them, sometimes you just cant get it all totally right unless you have wads of cash to get all the correct parts really.

Hoo boy. I don't think Mike will appreciate that comment.
I like Mike's KITT-X. He has done a lot to it and done good. There's another one that had a car that has a blue scanner on it. In fact, you can get scanner lenses from Mike in several different colors.
Sure people like more "accurate" KITT's, but there's nothing wrong in my opinion with KITT-INSPIRED cars either. I enjoy seeing some of them. Though I do say I have seen some really lousy looking cars (Nick and Jessica replica I felt was one of them), I've seen some rather interesting and creative replicas that while they didn't look exactly like KITT, they looked really nice nonetheless.
It's a hobby. And I think as such, it should be enjoyed by all and people should be allowed to do up their cars as they like. Sure some people may not like it, but others will. That happens with any car project.
I can't count how many times I've heard things like "Why don't you just get a PROFESSIONAL paint job?" and "Why even BOTHER saving such an old car?" with my 1987 Pontiac 6000 restoration project (Dryden). However, it's the only car I have and he's a great car in great shape for his 18 years of life. And I LIKE the flat black look. I'm into the "techno/industrial" look. He looks like a lean, mean machine (and acts like a pure sweatheart of a car
) There've been many others that complimented me on the car and even one that once he saw the paint job, he decided to do his car the same way. I've found in the car building and restoration hobby, sometimes people can get rather critical. Some even call what I considered cool looking cars "ricers" and dissed them bad.
Can't please everyone. But if you don't like something, fine. But please realize that car restorers and builders put a LOT of time, effort and hard-earned money into their projects and really love their cars very much. And it's nice that other people love their cars as well.
Mike - I love your KITT-X - nice job!
I hope you'll give us an update soon, too, on how the project is going. Wish you the best of luck on KITT-X.

If it's one thing I can't stand are "Knight Knazis" who criticize yet have no car of their own. Knightdriver, Newcastle, any one who's been around the conversion community for a while as well as myself see this all the time.
Guess what? I SPENT the 14 grand (so far) on my car, so I imagine I can do pretty much whatever I want to it (if that's ok with you). You can have your opinion, but Mike and a lot others put a lot of hard work and time into these things. It's their car, dude lay off. We mostly build these things for ourselves not everyone else. I love getting emails from 14 year olds that have no car (and probably have never seen a 3rd gen in person) telling me "your car's wrong, didn't you know KITT had t-tops?" I chose a hardtop car and I'm sticking to it. If I want a ram-air set up, I'm gonna do it.
In the long run what difference does it make. Get the money and show us how it's done. I'll call your bluff. It's one thing to come in here and say an original KITT is the way to go and you prefer that look to the alternate stuff out there. It's another to come in here and say so-and-so and his car are stupid because (insert gripe here) BUT WHEN I GET A CAR AND MONEY MY CAR WILL BE PERFECT.
Feel free to click on the website icon below my post and criticize my car. Doesn't bother me. I know Mike and Mike knows how I feel about his car. It's what made me decide to do a conversion. Great way to make friends, by the way.

For what it's worth, kitt-x, I think your car is pretty damn cool. Props to you for going against the grain and doing something original. I'm all for that. That's why I decided a while ago that if I ever have the money to do my own replica, I'm going to go with a two-tone K.A.R.R. (there's only one other that I know of).

KITT-X was one of the first conversions I found online and I still think it's one of the coolest. That Ram Air Hood just gives KITT a meaner, tougher edge, and it's really subtle overall which I really like.
Kudos to everyone who has a conversion in any stage of completion. It will always be a dream of mine to have/build mine, but one that money will probably forever keep me from fulfilling, unless someone wants to donate 50 grand to me for a turnkey.... please?

speaking of conversions (though i too LOVE KITT-X)
i now have my hood:

my spoiler and rear bumper:

and just need my tailights, wheels, and front fenders (or just the vents):

and of COURSE my nose. i really want the season 1/2 nose. i lie the little turn signal covers. though i dont need them to be seperate since my car doesnt have turn signals up there; so i really just need the grooves where the covers would be.

Nice job so far!
Even if you don't get another nose, you can still think of it as a "future KITT". Is yours a 2000? 2002? The WS6 version? I loved it that Pontiac had done that "KITT-like" nose on those newer models. Guess in response after all to those who wanted a "KITT".
I also noticed the "Firehawk" tires - Pontiac actually made a Firehawk I think in 2000. Limited amount of cars made I hear so I guess they are rare. Nonetheless a nice looking car.
You're coming along nice with your conversion. Good luck with finding the parts you need.
Also might try http://www.thirdgen.org/ and see if they have areas where you could find parts and stuff.

Hey guys,
Just a couple of friendly moderator notes.
First of all, if you have criticism or questions about things that others in the community are creating, please be constructive. Please remember that someone else is putting their time and energy into their creations. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but as part of this community please be respectful when you voice them.
Secondly, for those of you who posted in this thread with calm, rational arguments about why people might choose to make their replica a certain way, thank you. That's much appreciated. But there are several responses in this thread that are not very respectful either. Responding like that, while it might be understandable, doesn't help calm the situation down any.
Thank you.

Are there any good websites it the states that have car ad's on them? I'm would like to start some preliminary research to see how much a Trans-Am will cost me..
If you could post up links or even PM them to me that would be fantastic..

well, due to money reasons, i will probably be doing a personalized interior so i really want the exterior to look authentic. i have the stock digital dash out of an '86 GTA so i'll probably save up for the dash shell and move around and mount my current digital guages in it. but i'll definitely be buying the voice mod box for it. HAVE to have that!FuzzieDice wrote:Nice job so far!Even if you don't get another nose, you can still think of it as a "future KITT". Is yours a 2000? 2002? The WS6 version? Knightshade - if there's anything in my post that perhaps wasn't a good idea for me to have said, let me know and I can change or remove it, if you'd prefer. I don't want to offend.

"Knight Knazis"! Hah! Ummm....I guess I could have been called something like that on occasion. I AM a stickler for details, but as yet don't own a TA, let alone a KITT replica. But I'm not going to criticize someone elses attempts, unless they do a chequebook replica and completely stuff it up! But hey, there ain't many of us that can do that.

To have an accurate season 1/2 nose, I recommend that you order yours from Knight Passions in the Netherlands. They seem to be the only company that I know of that produce the slightly more rounded nose. To be completely true to the show, the seasons 1-3 nose basically had a dip in the center which caused a slight bit of open space between the hood and the nose.ad227529 wrote:and of COURSE my nose. i really want the season 1/2 nose. i lie the little turn signal covers. though i dont need them to be seperate since my car doesnt have turn signals up there; so i really just need the grooves where the covers would be.
This dip also narrowed the open spaces which accomodate the fog lights. (This is the reason the two-tone K.A.R.R.'s fog lights are difficult to see even with the silver paint job.) I've seen other supposed "original mold" noses that have had only the sharper lines reminiscent of the 4th season. I won't bother naming names here, though. If you don't care about accuracy and simply want to make your replica your own, then I wouldn't worry about this.

unfortunately i'm sure that shipping and handling for a 20 - 30lb car nose from the Netherlands to little Dayton, Ohio USA...would be a LITTLE outta my reach : ) a friend of mine has the dimentions and is planning on making one out of sheet metal and if that works out, he may make me one. i would feel better then too..fiberglass is kinda fragile (specially for $500+!) and if the sheet metal got bent or anything, it would be a lot easier to fix than the FG.Lost Knight wrote:To have an accurate season 1/2 nose, I recommend that you order yours from Knight Passions in the Netherlands.
