Post by Tony » Fri Aug 06, 2004 8:58 pm

Hello everyone !!

It has been quite some time since I last posted..
I Just decided to say hi and also wanted to see how everyone is doing.
I have been very busy with work and helping a friend out with his KITT/KARRconversion. And I am also busy restoring my KITT car.
I am sure most of you got the 1st season DVD box set.
And I'm sure some of you have been having some probs with them
too. Disc 1 side B is giving me some trouble. It won't play in my
PS2 any for that matter. and it gets stick in my normal DVD player.
Anyone having this problem too???

Well everyone take care and hope to talk to
some of you soon in the future..

Yes.. There is a side B.. Disc 1 to 3 are all double sided except for disc 4.

Ok... I'm watching the KR DVD's using my PS2 as well and I just finished watching Slammin' Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular which is on side B of disc 1. So far, no problems...

Maybe there are some minor scratches on the disc..

I am right about where you are, and I am oks. My DVD player isnt having any issues with it...yet. Your watching it on a PSII? I have heard they (PSII) have a tendancy to break down rather quicky  Could it be a hardware issue with it, how does it perform when you play games or other DVD's?

I've had my PS2 which is the US set for almost 2 years already. No problems that I'm aware of.

I can play games as well as watch region 1 dvd's on my PS2.. And I play games and dvd's on my PS2 often.. It performs very well... Really reliable..

Well I just got a new ps2 (2days ago) and it does the same thing.
disc 1 side B wil not play.
I think it's a dvd media issue. not the system.

Disc 1 Side B is Defective

Post by hillstones » Mon Aug 09, 2004 2:42 am

Yes, Disc 1 Side B is defective. About 15 minutes into the episode, Not a Drop to Drink, my Sony DVD Player froze with jarred video. If you try to fast-forward, it jumps to about 27 minutes into the episode. That is the only flaw I have come across. I am into Disc 2 now and everything is ok. I checked the disc, and there is not a scratch on it.

If others are experiencing the same problems, then a large batch of DVD's must be bad.

Overall, the DVD's are excellent quality. The mono sound is unfortunate, but I believe Seasons 2, 3, and 4 were in stereo when they originally aired.

One great flaw I saw was in the Pilot episode (in addition to the moving bullet wound), was the use of a stock Trans Am. When Michael falls asleep at the wheel and gets pulled over, the police approach KITT from the rear. Pause your DVD player the moment you see the rear of KITT and you will see it is a stock Trans Am. It has the stock Pontiac tailights with the Trans Am logo in the center, and the license plate is a Non-California plate that is not even close to the word KNIGHT.

BUY DISC SKINS. I work at a walmart (hold the laughs) and i usually stock the electronic department at night and we just got our department reset. Anyways they got tons of new crap and they got a new item. DISC SKINS. The are clear thin snap on layers that goes on a cd/dvd/ps2/xbox disc. I protects it forever. You snap it on and leave it on. EVEN WHILE YOUR USING IT.

They are really cheap if i remember correctly i think a couple bucks for a pack of five. Ill have more info saturday if no one else finds them. I am getting them to preserve not only my knight rider dvd's but also my ALF season 1 dvd set which came out a week after KR.

They are clear thin plastic with lil ridges on the outer end that snap over existing discs. They supposedly are crystal clear and still will allow the laser to read through it. I work tonight and plan on buying some.

Well someone mentioned at the beginning of one episode in the opening credits that the very first chord of the theme skips, and that happened to me for an episode as well, though I think the episode might have originally aired that way. As to any other problems, none so far. I noticed there was a finger print on side B of disc 3 however but I carefully wiped it off. A lot of other people have been complaining about marks on their DVDs, it seems like the guys that packaged these things didn't put much care into it. I have never bought a CD or DVD that has had a scratch or finger prints on it before this.

Its funny when CD's first came out one of their marketing gimmicks was that they were HIGHLY indistructable compared to cassettes................ i guess they lied.

I dont either. NOT ONE PROBLEM AT ALL.

PS on my previous post. For highly destructible disc we sure have to treat them like gold when we handle them. WHAT A SHAME.
