I know that KITT's engine was a turbine engine. Does anyone know whether it was a turbine or twin turbine engine? Was it ever called anything else? I am building a model of KARR and I am going to toss out the engine that comes with the kit and scratch build a custom turbine engine instead. I just wondered if the engine was ever referred to as a "twin turbine".

nope, it was just referred to (very rarely) as a Turbine Engine, and the rest of it comes from general assumptions through the 'whoosh' I believe it is in Goliath when Michael refers to KITT's turbines being damaged.

dont hold me to this, but a while back i read that Universal was selling their old KITTs for $1200. however, it was just the body and electronics; no engine or trans due to the fact that it was a twin turbine. they could have been joking about that part though

It was a joke all around, since most of their KITT's are destroyed, or were sent or sold otherwise to private collections. They also didn't have a real turbine engine in them, it was all sound effect.

Some say it was Pontiac's order, others say that for the most part, when they were done, there weren't many cars left complete after the stunts. Needless to say, they are quite rare.

You think?
I think you need to find the Looking For Freedom Video sometime, and watch it, it becomes blatently obvious that the cars didn't always make it. Many of them weren't full cars, they were covers, but regardless, many of them didn't make it.

They were frames of vehicles, with a "KITT skin" over the top. Shells that were in effect disposable, in stunts where they knew it was going to get destroyed. It's information that can be found in the Knight Rider Legacy book, as well as a few interviews that are posted up around the net.

Hmmm I thought I heard Ford ordered the SPM car and a few others destroyed before they would give them the cars for TKR. Anyone else ever heard this?

No...why would Ford want the cars destroyed, that somehow doesn't make much sense....

I don't know, I saw the article on a wbsite years ago, right around when TKR came out, and I was just seeing if it was true or someone making up something to go along with some Ford-bashing.
