I found an interesting site that came up on my Google feed comparing kitt 1982 versus kitt2008:

Funny, I was thinking of how to make KR08 better not long ago.

A good start would be to ditch the f-ing ridiculous transformation sequences. SPM is one thing, but KI3T going from a Mustang to a F-150 or CVPI, lmao just no.

A better interior would have been a nice start:

The stock look was terrible for a state-of-the-art knight industries vehicle.

You mean KI3T looked too clinical/clean?

It looked like a 45 minute Ford car commercial. Almost everything was stock. How many times can you count that in the original series people talked about ki2t dash? Ki2t was proud of his dash. He Eben said so on an episode.

In my opinion, automotive dash design begins and ends with the original 1982 KITT dash, or its later versions in the original series. To me, the 2008 KI3T was a disappointment. Once I saw that original dash in 1982, I was mesmerized and inspired, so that I attempted to make the dash of almost every car I owned since then as much like KITT's as my abilities and budget, as well as available technology, would allow.

I also agree that the transformations to different types of vehicles, as well as the "nano technology" that looked like something from Star Trek transporter, were just too much. We suspend our disbelief when watching such a show, but we can only suspend so much, and this these types of transformations just looked like something too far in the future for even Knight Rider.

However, one could almost say that the real 2018+ Mustang with the digital dash option does a pretty good emulation of the 2008 KI3T.

I wouldn't pit them against each other-I would have them Unite and Become The Ultimate Crime-Fighting Team. Father and Son-Human and Vehicular.

That still gets me excited to see both of them at the same time racing each other. If only it was real.

Which would I prefer? TOS dash, hands down.

Though, I do understand that designing interior dash boards must be a rather hard thing to do. So I asked an actual computer to create one in the KR style. Erm... Maybe Turbo Boost button is there, right below the airbag? Scene looks like a recreation of the demolition derby to me.

I'm saying that things always could have come out even worse. *Cough, cough* TKR...

My brain struggled to understand which direction the car was facing, where is the driverside window, what angle was the dash? and that wheel is crazy. I don't even want to know where the car's driver seat is, probably the glove box LOL. I figured dashboards were very hard to design to look sleek. I would love to pick Michael Scheffe's mind as to what he would design for kitt's interior these days/ Would he take what was in season 4 as a startng point and make something even sleeker or come up with something new from scratch.

I kind of saw the 'computer interface' as being off to the left and the driver literally jumped in via the open T-Top. Maybe the driver's seat swivels, like some kind of tight Batman car design?

The other batches of cars didn't even come close. T-Tops and Doeskin interiors. The AI loved the red and black colors. A lot of fever dream logic. It knows Michael Knight somewhat better.
