What if.. KITT was another car?
A radically other car, not like a Trans-Am or Mustang or any other muscle car for that matter.
What if he was a Mazda RX-7, a DeLorean DMC-12 or even a Volvo 245 wagon?
a RX-7 as KITT sounds pretty intresting to be honest!

Re: What if.. KITT was another car?
I remember reading that Glen A. Larson was considering KITT to be a Datsun 240Z, I guess similar body shape as Bionic Woman's car was?
Mazda RX-7 would've been great choice as well as it has those popup headlights like Pontiac Trans-Am.
Still, I'm happy that they decided to use 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am as KITT, it's the best choice and really good looking car still today
My parents had a 1983 Mazda 323 5-door Hatchback (GLC in the USA) during the years Knight Rider was on tv here and that Mazda has the warning light cluster in front of the steering column, about the same place as KITT's voicebox and dad used to pull the handbrake just enough that the indicator light came on and release it to make it look like KITT's voicebox flashing
That Mazda had even a tan interior which further reminded of KITT

Re: What if.. KITT was another car?
I used to wonder if Kitt wasn't a trans am, would I have liked the 80's Trans am. I can't think of any other car being Kitt in the 80's. Except for maybe the Nissan 300ZX. Not sure if that was in the 80's but it had the 80's look to me.

This 1987 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z could been Kitt because kinda looks alike a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

Re: What if.. KITT was another car?
How about Opel Calibra as KIFT or even as KITT 2.0 if Knight Rider lasted to the 1990's?

At least Calibra is a GM product like the Trans-Am

Re: What if.. KITT was another car?
And this 'could have' been something great with the KR '08 series and it's shape shifting capacity. They 'could have' explored all kinds of car models to find what fits best in 'this' and 'that' situation. It was a fantastic plot device for changing cars on the fly. Alas, an opportunity they didn't play around with all that much. Instead, opting for examples of very unsafe driving practices (and why AI assist is so necessary in such a situation) and lots of 'chit chat filler'. (However, that approach works well in that Agents of SHIELD show.)

I owned a Calibra for a number of years and I love this idea.KITTfan wrote:How about Opel Calibra as KIFT or even as KITT 2.0 if Knight Rider lasted to the 1990's?

If it was an upgrade of some sort, the new 50th Anniversary Camaro looks like a good start. I could imagine a touch-up by Trans Am Depot that could be faithful to the original.
