Hoo-kay, so... I was re-watching the S3 episode "Lost Knight" When I realized something about this little bit:
--
"Goodnight, Elliot."
"Kitt, my name is Doug!"
"Oh... Well then, who's Elliot?"
--
...Am I being a dumb newbie when I say that I have no idea who Elliot is?

I read once an explanation that it was a reference to E.T. movie which has a character named Elliott.

I used to think he was referring to Elliot from knight and knerd in season 3 but lost knight came out first.

Heh, knerd...
I think the E.T. ref would probably be the most plausible... although I find the thought of KITT watching E.T. absolutely hilarious.

no see this is like a spin off to e.t. so what happened is this episode is about a boy finds a lost super car so they thought do that since E.T. was for best picture in 1982 they thought lets do it this way

It is a reference to E.T. - the original script for 'Lost Knight' was actually entitled 'K.I.T.T. Phone Home'!
