Using Mio Knight Rider GPS in UK & Western Europe

Here's a solution if anyone is still struggling to get their Mio Knight Rider GPS / SatNav working in Europe...
I got some of this info from another post on here but there's some info here to save you a bit of money on the Mio store... Probably the same method can be used in Eastern Europe/ Australia etc but I haven't tried.
**MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR ENTIRE MIO UNIT to your hard drive**
Depending how many maps you want to install you'll probably need to remove some of the maps from the Mio unit.
**Make sure you're using a Mio branded version with "Knight Rider" above the screen and "Mio" beneath the screen**
I originally got the similar Navman version which looks almost the same (and works the same) and even connects to the Mio software the same -but the European maps as described below don't work with that. There might be a solution by specifying a different Mio model that's more similar, but I don't know what that is.
1. Go to the European Mio web store: http://eu.mio.com/shop/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. Go to "Downloadable Maps & Unlock Keys"
3. IMPORTANT... Choose the "Downloadable maps" option! It's cheaper than the key option and you get a key PLUS updated maps to download as well! I chose the whole of Europe rather than just the UK as a similar price.
4. Choose the Moov310 (this seems to be what the Mio Knight Rider is based on)
So far, I've not tried the newer maps as I can't get them to be recognised in the disc drive -if anyone has any ideas please update!
5. Use the original disc supplied with the unit and the unlock key emailed to you after purchase, this should unlock the maps. This worked for me.
When the maps have been uploaded to the Mio unit, on selecting European maps you get an error about the maps but they are working fine.
When I was using my original Navman version, I got as far as this (and the maps installed ok) but the maps wouldn't respond on the unit itself... Everything seems ok on the Mio version (at last!!
) This has worked out expensive for me by doing it wrong and learning the hard way so hope this helps some of you out!
