As We have seen mike take over a couple times when Ki3t's been unable to repair himself.
I have been wondering if he was what they call like a "Tiptronic" transmision..
where you have the manual mode then you can slip it into auto mode..
any ideas?

In the movie he seemed to have a manual mode when the AI was shut down. In the series it looks like he's an automatic or maybe even some advanced form of CVT.

I like to think of KI3T as Automatic to be honest.
but i think you are right, we didnt have the cahnce to see the gear shift like TOS

KITT has an automatic transmission, even though only a 6-speed manual is available in the GT500KR.

In the movie the regular mode KITT, that Mike drove, was manual. The remote mode car had auto trans, cuz
you can't do that kind of rigging(for the car to drive itself) on a manual. The series car shows an auto, and it
may be, w/ Shelby body stuff. Production Shelby Mustangs, like the GT500KR, only have stick.

NERD REASONING: Probably for the fact that KITT was still in the midst of facing field testing, we seen how his interior was not fully integrated. AUTO mode was without pilot accessibility (no shift handle or gas and brake pedals available for the driver. Maybe for KITT's body to be utilized to the best of man's ability, the manual stick shift was accessible..we just can't use the car to it's best without stick-shift.
I'd love to see Mike able to stick-drive the car again (if they can come up with a good excuse). He's an experienced driver.
