New Opening Credit Sequence

Did anyone happen to catch that the opening credit sequence has been changed to include some new footage and other cast members? It's cool and all but it desperately needs the clip of K.I.T.T. driving through the desert from the second episode.
Also, why do you think they would bother now to change the credit sequence and to add footage of Charles and Alex when they'll both soon be leaving the show?

They did it in a manner I think that will allow them to easily remove the cast members but apparently the next two or three episodes will also be different. I think they just wanted to update it since they have a lot more footage to work with now.
