Original KR blooper?

ok, so I am slowly makingmy way through TOS of KR. And last night i was watching ...ugh! tha name esapces me!
But it's the one with a rancher trying to blow up a dam and KITT plays Matador w/a bull. "Not a Drop to Drink"! That's it!
Anyway, in the sequence where KITT scares of one of the bad guys, I noticed a metal rod on KITT's undercarriage and I suspect this was a way that they made KITT move unmanned.
Has anyone else noticed this?
