The Original Michael Knight

Hi Guys,
With everything that’s going on in the new series in terms of Mike Traceur’s past, I’m starting to think that I might be getting a handle on where things could be going in the long run.
As I’m sure most of you will agree, the Scent of Roses was the true end to the original series, and given our knowledge of the events that took place in that episode, we know that Michael was a changed man by the end of it. What we don’t know though, is whether he was ever able to go back to being the carefree heroic type that he’d become over the first four years of his new life.
Now, I know that the general expectation is that he’ll show up in the nick of time, and save his son from some unimaginable fate, but what if, instead of being a white knight who rides his faithful steed into the heart of a situation that’s chocked full of villainy, he actually turns out to be a dark knight, who, having learnt through his years of unending sacrifice, that ultimately, the ends simply have to justify the means when it comes to combating the types of criminal that he’s constantly been faced with over the years?
I know this may be a bit of a radical viewpoint, but given the number of high level employees that were, at the very least, complicit with, if not wholly involved in, what happened to Mike whilst he was in the Special Forces, I think it could be an interesting development if it turns out to be Michael Knight himself that was responsible for spearheading the changes that have so overwhelmingly affected his son’s life.
Now, I’m sure that some of you are wondering how I could possibly feel that Michael would have been able to undergo such a change, but if we go back to the Scent of Roses again for a moment, I believe that this could in fact be the most natural progression for his character, as given the loss that he suffered in that episode, along with what will have undoubtedly happened to Devon in the interim, it would allow him to see the path that he once followed through the eyes of his son, and finally restore the legacy that he was always destined to champion, whilst leaving his son to continue the mission with a philosophically restored hierarchy above him.
Matt
