The bulky plastic part in the middle looked to me like it house the knight 3000 computer.It made it look like kitt was in the backseat.Instead they preplaced it with more product placement.

I wondered that myself. I had hoped we'd get an explanation as to what it was, though I like the explanation you have, that it's KI3T's computer. I assume they decided to go with the same theme as the 2000. The only thing in that KITT that was different from a regular Trans-Am on the interior was the dash board, the console, and the overhead console. Though I did often wonder what Michael did when he needed something from the overhead console while KITT had the convertible top down. .

They re-did (or undid) the interior. not sure why you are saying there is more product placement - are you confusing it with the head rests?

There is nothing in the back seat during standard mode - but during Attack Mode it looks like there is a lab setup:

I was thinking it was some sort of generator or maybe something that houses extra nanites?

I was thinking the same thing about the nanites being in the part on the backseat.

I also thought that too!Remember:Attack KI3T is COVERED with neon lights,like the KR logo on his "belly",so I'd also expect to see some neon lights on his tail.

Check out this thread, I took a picture of the back seat of Attack KITT before it was completed when it was on display at Comic Con. I'm not sure what it is...
