So what's it gonna be?

So is Kitt morphing or is he transforming or a mix of the two? The movie pilot was all about morphing and now their promoting transforming in the new commercial... Does anyone know?

My educated guess would be that it's a complicated combination of the two, because in the HD preview that Neil posted, it looked to me like the doors of the F-150 wind up turning into the Shelby's fenders.
Unfortunately, frame by frame analysis is difficult given the speed of the preview. Hopefully we'll get a bullet time transformation sequence in the first episode to get a really good look at exactly how they're doing it.

That's a damn good question...

It's gotta be a combination of the two - both nano-morphing and transformation. KI3T will still need the nano technology for self-healing in order to protect itself, so the nano-morphing ability is still there. I think the mechanical transformation will be for the pickup truck only, being such a large-scale change. Now they will be able to haul large objects, if they need to.

Shall we call it "Nano-Transmorphing"?

Color changing might also be an easy way to tell. There's only so many plausible colors a transforming vehicle can change into. So far I have only seen the blue F-150 in the previews, so that may not be enough to tell for sure. But ultimately my guess is that it will transform while also having the nanotechnology.

does it weigh the same as a pick up then?

My guess is it's still a nanotechnology base. I don't think that's one of the points they wanted to adjust when retooling for series, I think was making the transformation just more obvious.

Well I have to admit the transforming into a truck disturbs me. Nanotech is cool and hot right now, and it is plausible in terms of healing and shape/color shifting as long as the car retains the same mass. Becoming a truck is a little different. I guess as long as it is only external appearance, and the car doesn't suddenly gain the ability to tow large objects...it will be ok. But I think the turning into a truck thing is the first major complaint I've had about the new show other than the fact that they didn't modify the mustang to make it look more aerodynamic.

Don't worry the Gt500 KR is more aerodynamic than trans am

the truck was black just like the shelby

This is a good thread DevonStyles,

I hadn’t really thought about it until you brought it up.
I agree with seeker78, when I saw KITT transform in the pilot I was under the impression his engine remained the same and that only his skin would morph acting sort of like an MBS.

As to how the truck transforms… One of my complaints before was that KITT lost his scanner, it looks to me like he is keeping it now, this makes sense to me not only because how else could he see, but also if your selling a toy you want every form to have a scanner. Perhaps they also had the toy market in mind when making KITT transform this way.
Remember this thread.

With respect, please no. I've had enough of seeing BT in movies and tv shows. They did it twice in the pilot which was slightly irritating.
Some things are more interesting when they are unexplained.

Please tell me your not serious about a GT500 being more aerodynamic than a trans am?

Yeah, could be. For whatever reason I thought it was a dark blue.
Nevertheless, another reason I'm confident that K.I.T.T. with have both the nanotechnology as well as being able to transform is the issue of body damage. How else is K.I.T.T. going to avoid bullet holes and other weapon damage?
I believe the nanotechnology aspect should remain in the series because it was a major part of Charles Graiman's research. I can understand why the transforming exists, though, because nanobots alone would not be enough to develop the Mustang into an entire truck. Repairing a window or constructing a double spoiler was already pushing it.
