I've just finished the first official piece of KR2008 fanfic - but I don't know what to call it. I realize not all of you want to read it, so I'll post an excerpt and you can private-message me if you want me to send you the rest. It's quite short at 523 words.

Mike sighed.
It was the only sound that had come out of him the entire trip home. Kitt’s instincts barked. This is not normal…
“You are not content,” he observed, offering his driver control of the car.
Mike gently pushed the shifter away and shook his head, eyes fixed on the road.
“…I will be quiet.”
“No, it’s okay, I’m just tired.”
“That is not all.”
“Prying, aren’t we?”
“My primary concern is your well-being, Mike. Now please tell me, what is the matter?”
There was a rather long and awkward pause between them. “Kitt…you ever feel…alone?”
“This is not about me.”
“Do you?”
There was another pause. “Why?”

I say you should just post it.

That can be arranged.

“Just answer the damned question.”
The AI hesitated. “No. Why does it matter?”
Mike looked back at the road, his expression unreadable.
“Are you feeling –“
“You can be quiet now.”
“I…yes, Mike.”
Neither of them spoke for a long while.

It happened so suddenly that Kitt didn’t even have time to see it coming. Mike had been tense the entire drive, but the AI hadn’t expected it when his driver suddenly slammed his fist down on the dashboard, causing it to come out of alignment.
“You have lost your temper instantly. What is the problem?”
Mike ran his hand through his blonde hair. “Everything that’s been going on lately…how the hell was I ever convinced to take this job?”
Kitt decided that was a question that didn’t need to be answered.
Mike sighed and rubbed the part of the dashboard he had just hit, the nanotechnology healing it under his hand. “I’m sorry, Kitt.”
Kitt wasn’t sure what to say, but his instinct told him to comfort the human. “Do not be. I appreciate that I have helped.”
Mike smiled half-heartedly as he put his hands on the wheel. He could have sworn he felt the car tremble, but passed it off as a rough spot in the road. As they rounded a boomerang turn, he watched out the window at the landscape. It seemed like only five minutes ago they were racing through the desert, but now they were darting among the constant twists and turns of the woodlands. “Nothing stays the same, does it?” he quietly asked his car, feeling the wheel turn.
Kitt resolved that this was another question that didn’t need an answer and sped up as he exited the turn. He felt Mike’s grip on the wheel tighten and understood. It was somewhat comforting for the young man to have something to hold onto. In a crescendo, the engine rumbled, growled, and roared into fourth gear, the vibrations underfoot a statement of the car’s unique strength and power.
It was then that Mike realized how solid the car was, how safe he was in its cabin. Between the indestructible car and Kitt watching out for him, he felt secure. It was a good feeling. A tinge of a smile played on his lips like the playful traces of pink in the setting sun ahead of them.
And Kitt felt it.

Good start! I like it.
And-
I can't tell you how refreshing it is to read something with proper grammar and spelling.

Yeah I can be a total 'grammar Nazi,' as my writing friends call it. It's more of a short little musing than it is a starter, but ya never know, it could be something.

Carry a notebook- (you probably already knew that) sometimes bits for fanfic will come at you in really weird places. (class lecture, anyone?)
I'd like to see that piece be developed.

Hmm...I don't think it will be going anywhere from here. It was just a little short I wrote to test out the KR2008 fanfic. It's not as easy to nail the new KITT's personality. Mike's a bit easier than Michael for me, but hey, that's just me.

By the way, a lot of people have been browsing this topic and not replying. Please; if you read this, give me some feedback. You know how important it would be to you.

I know the problem too.
I`m a writer of KR fanfic (in german) too, and a lot of people have read my storys, but feedback is rare.
So its for me important to write a few words.
Your KR08 Fanfic is interesting.
You should write more.
Till know its the first, or?
And it shortens the time till we see the next from the series. (Hopefully)

Unfortunately I cannot yet fluently speak or read German, but I'm trying to learn in my spare time. Maybe someday I'll be able to give you some feedback : )

I really enjoyed this. It's hard to extrapolate KITT and Mike's future relationship, so I like how you kept it as a simple, emotional piece that takes place right after the movie. (At least that's when I imagined it was happening.)

Er... what I mean to say is, no matter what they choose to do with the series later, you won't have to worry about relabeling this story as "AU," you know? (I really don't think I have enough caffeine today.)

Looking forward to more KR2008 stories in the future~

I tried to sort of break the ice between Mike and Kitt in this one. It's almost like they're seeing each other for the first time here.

One question - what does AU mean?

And personally, with all the raunchy, bizarre, poorly written, or just weird fanfic out there, I have yet to see something marked as "AU" or "anonymous". That's why people make up screen names, or so I thought.

Haha... I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

AU means "alternate universe," and I typically see it posted onto stories that were written prematurely and no longer make any sense in canon, or stories that want to use slightly different canon. For example, a lot of people wrote stories about Harry Potter's future before the books ended. Now that they're finished, they might be considered AU.

At least, that's what I always THOUGHT it meant...

Haha! It really brings new meaning to "KITT's AI," doesn't it? Hm... KITT's "AI" fanfic challenge, anyone~??

I'm not even going there. We're going to collect the... magic juice tomorrow in lab to AI a mare.

I think "male" is more of a gender-identity thing than a sex thing for KITT. It would be kind of creepy for Wilton Knight (or Charles Graiman?) to actually add a physical identifier... Or, rather, extremely creepy.
