Here's an idea- Knight Rider as a UK series

Every now and again, I get ideas that will come in to my head and they just won't go away.
After thinking about all the UK shows that get the foreign rights sold to America: like the Apprentice, Who wants to be a millionaire, the Office and the failed Red Dwarf US Pilot, a thought occured to me; would an American show's foreign rights sold to the UK work as a show?
I started thinking about if it could be possible for Knight Rider could be turned into a British series.
True, it would probably be never as big in scale and production as the original and potential current one, but there's nothing stopping a network in the UK from trying.
anyway, here's who I would cast for a UK Knight Rider:
Michael Knight -
Devon Miles - Sir Ian McKellen
Bonnie Barstow - Sophya Miles
The Voice of K.I.T.T. - Chris Barrie
As for the choice of car; that is a difficult one. Considering that there aren't many car manufacturers in the UK that are solely owned by Britain, then it is rather difficult to choose what car a UK KITT should be.
Granted, a Ford might not be such a popular choice due to the amount of ill-will the new KITT recieved being a Mustang, but chances are KITT would end being a Ford in the UK.
If so, in my opinion, UK KITT would have to be a 3 door sporty number. A fiesta wouldn't be bad looking, but it wouldn't have the horse power. But then again, the Trans Am in the original series was modified to go at speeds over long distances, so I don't see why a UK car couldn't be modified to do the same.
The reason I selected Chris Barrie as the voice of KITT, for the simple reason is that he can do great voice overs. Those that have seen and heard the Red Dwarf radio sketches will know that he does good imitations and he just has that ability to sound like a smart-alec.
Anyway, what do you think about the idea of Knight Rider being made into a UK series?
