If the General Lee hadn't jumped - would the Knight 2000?

Hey,
Just another brain picking topic for ya. In the 80s you had two similar shows in Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider going against each other. Advertising often how superior KITT was over the General Lee. And the one thing they had in common was that both cars jumped - alot.
Do you think that if the GL never jumped in it's show, would it have been a feature in Knight Rider? Of all the features KITT has - it's probably the most unrealistic today, as many of his other features have become or will become realities.
Looking forward to a friendly debate!

As far as I know, Kitt's Turbo Boost function appeared in a later revision of the pilot's script. Origially, Kitt would have just crashed through the ComTron semi. Maybe it was indeed the General Lee which inspired the now-famous leap...

No idea on that comparison. In my opinion if the car don't jump you don't have much of anything to go on. The jumps and the turbo boosts is what captures the kids imiginations and makes us think anything is possible.

I don't think it's anymore unrealistic than a car having a turbine engine and getting 200 miles per gallon.
Anyway, probably not since Knight Rider was basically meant to be NBC's answer to Dukes of Hazzard.

Well there have been cars with turbine engines. But I realize you might mean the 200mpg WITH a turbine engine

One thing i wanna know is how the hell the General Lee jumped without turbo boost? Uncle Jesse's moonshine perhaps?

I don't think it was just a Dukes thing. Back then just about EVERY action show had cars jumping through the air for no good reason. They even had that brown pickup truck jumping over stuff in the Fall Guy. lol
God, I miss those days.

Yeah, 200MPG thing is nuts, they aren't even matching that (or the out put the car was capable of) with this new show apparently.... Turbo Boost though can at least be explainable with KITT and it having to do with the engine and the power it had.
I think the General Lee just had objects to jump from. I was never a DoH fan so I'm not sure exactly what situations they had where the car jumped. Fall Guy did it too but I don't think that show was nearly as popular as Dukes of Hazzard which I know was considered Knight Rider's main competition..
