My Visit to "Red Bluff" (from "Goliath")

I recently returned from vacation where I was able to locate some VERY difficult filming locations for Goliath - since they are pretty much in the middle of the desert! This pic below was one of the easier ones to find, relatively speaking, although I did have to hike up some rather large rocks to get the correct angle! The picture on the left is from "Goliath", where KITT is racing towards Red Bluff. The picture on the right was taken a few days ago. Many more comparison shots coming!

Awesome photos

Is that desert area really called Red Bluff?

That's really cool, Joe. Awesome that you were able to find the locations.

Well, here's the story of how I found this location - I was able to find it based solely on watching the episode. Let me explain. There is one BRIEF, 5 second scene in "Goliath", where Michael and Elizabeth Knight are watching Goliath on a television set heading into Red Bluff. If you look VERY closely, you can see a sign that says "Valley Of Fire State Park". A little research shows that this is just outside of Las Vegas, NV. Numerous scenes from "Goliath" were filmed here. The park isn't very big, so I started at one end and found as many filming locations as possible! There isn't really a place called "Red Bluff" - the writers probably got that name due to the fact that the rocks in "Valley of Fire" have a redish tint to them. Here's that scene I described earlier in this post along with what it looks like today:

Awesome Joe!

That is amazing to see how it was then and how (little) it has changed now. You have some really good observation skills.

Just out of curiosity...are there speed limits out there or can you go as fast as you want?

You really are the man!

But how exactly you find those almost exact camera locations. Do you print out pictures of the episode or do you have some kind of portable DVD-player from where you can scout some landmarks? Or maybe something else?

When I went to Chicago a couple of years back - I contacted Joe to see if he had any record of filming locations. In response he sent me zip with about 30 images of screen caps from the episode. I printed these out on my trip as I wondered the city.
Joe really has a good eye for cityscapes, it's really a fun project to help him finish out.
Here is mine from Chicago:

I printed out some screen shots from the episode before I went. The one shot with Goliath coming around a bend I found by accident AFTER I had already taken the picture! I just thought it looked cool and I later discovered it to be nearly the exact shot as in the episode! I did miss a few pics though - perhaps next time!

You've got the pics from then and now matched up just right. That had to take some time to do with the camera work. Please send some more cool pics.

I like how on the that first one you even got about the same time of day, judging by the shadow. Slightly earlier, perhaps.

Here's one final one from "Goliath" - I took this on my Vegas trip in 2004. The angles are off a little, but it's the same place. Caesar's Palace is a bit easier to find than a pile of rocks in the desert
