I have seen (as some of you folks may have) a complete collection of KR on DVD (remember, even before all 4 seasons were out?) I just found this WIKI tonight and it sheds a little light on Empirical:

One DVD set that has shown up multiple times is sold by a company called Empirical (or Empirical Film). The company sells DVD sets of many television shows, many of which are already legally available on DVD. The company is based in the Philippines, making it difficult for license holders to shut them down.

So there is *A* story at least. But for those that may not already have figured that out, at least it's here for future reference. Your best bet is to buy the KR DVDs that Universal put out.
