Here's another car project which has been in development limbo for quite a long time... Variety reports that Warner Bros. has actually set a release date for the Speed Racer movie: May 9, 2008. It's being made by the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix trilogy) and produced by Joel Silver (also on The Matrix, V for Vendetta.) They are in final talks to have Emmile Hirsch star as Speed.

Really? It's live action...what do you mean by half CGI? ....wonder what they'll make the Mach 5 out of....

Well that has the potential to be awesome should they do it right.

One rumor is that it would be a live-action movie, but the Mach 5 car would be all CG. From the sites I've seen however, a lot of that seems to be speculation after one of the producers joked "I don't know if we'll use any cars". Another site interpretted that the entire movie might be filmed in front of a green screen (like 300).

I don't have a reliable site for the news. It seems that the Speed Racer fandom goes through the same rumor mill that we do.

WELL, AS WITH ALL THE MEDIA CLIPPINGS I READ BOTH ON THE NET & IN PRINT...... it'll be half & half & green screen

As with the Thunderbirds movie & its sequel-yeh a darker sequel is in the works on that......still not a peep as to whats up with KR- THE MOVIE
Beyond what has already been batted around & some false stuff put out.
ALA the fast/furious/nauseating & all its spawned clones....

ditto for the (yuck-I wanna hurl )Hulk -2

Hey if Chrysler can rework their muscle cars then why can't GM and jump re-start the KR movie etc...that'd be cool.....!

GM made the wrong decision to tell Universal to make the writers to stop referring to KITT as a Trans Am.

Imagine how many more sales they would have made if they allowed it ... and Pontiac gave Universal the cars in the first place

Other shows didn't seem to hide what their cars were (eg. Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, Italian Job, etc. come to mind) and their manufacturers did well out of it ...

My dad, an accountant, and not really a huge fan on Knight Rider is always shredding GM at the stupidity of forbidding Knight Rider to call KITT a Trans Am. He says it doesn't matter if people wanted the "KITT Trans Am," it was an unbelievable advertisement and an incredibly stupid move.
