Nope. I got a bit burned out with the whole modelling thing. I'll get back to it in a day or two. In the meantime, here's something else I've been working on the diagrams to (still a WIP):

Somewhat ... mostly, I used reference from my DVDs or off the net. Which is not to say I'm not grateful. A couple of those images will be great for texturing. Here's the revized version:

If any of you want a surefire way to lose your mind, try modelling a tire tread. It's insane. After about a day of work, the tread is mediocre at best and I've concluded it's not worth the effort. I'll be using a bump map. The tires just aren't worth the polys.

Oh yeah, this is the failed attempt ... 's okay, but not great, and it slows max down like a mofo.

No such luck I'm afraid but this is me - remember? I'm at least as fanatical when it comes to detail as the next guy ;)

FINALLY, a real update. Pretty much done with the wheels. I might have to remodel the spoke bits of the rim ... not 100% happy with them. Oh and don't mind the green block. It's just a placeholder for vent hole.

Have you started to dream about modelling yet? I got to a stage where I was dreaming about shift-dragging edges, welding vertices etc. Crazy!

Can't believe you even tried! I try to stick to bump maps for those. It's just crazy otherwise.

Beautiful wheels too though. I tried to use Boolean to try and join all (40)spokes to the rim. 3ds max shut down on me repeatedly. In the end I got it to work. Dunno how. Need a better way though.

I finally figured out how to get meshsmooth to work for me and made a really nice hood like yours. bit am giving up for the rest of the vehicle. My coursework is suffering and I don't wanna fail!

This is why I promised myself I wouldn't mess with materials until I was done modelling ... because I get caught up in the beauty of the car. I'm not so much in awe of my own model as the original design. The fact that I had anything to do with the rendering is just a bonus. What can I say? I really love this car ... enjoy my distraction:

Dude, that's frikkin awesome!

Would love to see your wireframes (without the meshsmooth) just to see how you did it. It might set my mind at ease and then I can concentrate on my coursework

Are you gonna do the interior too? Gonna use more planes or maps (for things like the door handle, door arm rest and other little details)?

What bout the base of the car? Leave it plain, mapped or er planed?

What materials did you use? I ended up making mine too glossy. Tried to match the look of the car in the Pilot, in the hangar where MK first sees it and feels the car. Ddin't work out too well.

Dunno if you've got Macromedia Director. Would be nice to see that model exported so you could pan around it, zoom in and out etc.

Seriously though, consider a walkthrough guide or something because making KITT was harder for me than making a Mazda Rx7.

Just to show how wannabegeorge is so accurate,I decided to make a transition gif from an actual pic of kitt.

Thanks very much for the replies guys :)

Knight2000 - I *would* post the unsmoothed mesh, but it's ugly as heck. I've tweaked it in several places so that the smooth works ... it's not a pretty picture XD

I'm planning to model every detail in the interior too. Crazy, I know, but I'm devoted like that. For the underside, I'll do something ... not sure how detailed I'll end up getting, but I'll do something.

I messed with a tutorial for the paint: http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorial/Cr ... rials/4853 but I ignore his lighting solution (so you don't need the plugin) and tweaked the black so it looks more or less right. I'm sure I'll play with it more later. And of course, I have the other materials to make too ...

When I'm done, I'll at least to a pan video rendering for y'all. Beyond that ... well, I have to finish the model first :P

I don't think I could do a walkthrough because I really am a novice. I BSed my way through this and it was HARD. I'm not sure I could make a tutorial based on it ... perhaps when my skills grow.

Knight Racer - wow ... that is so cool. You can see it's not 100% accurate, but my model's still close. Thanks again for the images you sent me :)
