ya that youtube video definately sounds much more like the KITT we know and love. Either way i'll still get it if not just for the startup scanner sound. :)

While I noticed the difference in the voice, it didn't really bother me. However, it's amazing the difference that the pitch change on youtube made.

I think the voice is just fine. Nothing wrong with it there. It's KITT, as far as I'm concerned. :)

My laptop sounds similar to William Daniels. Actually, it's funny because it's a Cepstral.com voice called (ready?) "William"! Not kidding! :)

There was actually a small article on MSN.ca this morning about it. It said it was available this month but i'm not sure if that's accurate or not.

Originally I was hearing August for release, last night I heard early September from their PR group. You'll find the device where Mio devices are sold - I've heard Circuit City and Fry's being tossed around.

The question for me is if Mio has indeed done another voice session with Mr. Daniels to get more names in the system and how long would it take to get the units shipped thereafter. Having the unit released this month seems awfully quick if the device has only recently been completed for mass production.

They should have made a K.A.R.R. prototype version with Peter Cullen's voice (though I prefer Paul Frees, but that wouldn't be an option) and then officially release the K.I.T.T. version just like in the series. :)

Indeed. Just gave my sat nav to my sister so looking for a replacement. Any general opinion on how good Mio actually is considering that Tom Toms are the benchmark in the UK???

I'll try to find out what I can for you guys. I know for right now it will only be sold in US/Canada with US/Canada maps included with the device.

However:
  • mio is a global company, reselling globally
  • i've bought electronics from the UK before, so it's possible you could buy this from amazon
  • if you do buy it from amazon, Mio offers maps for purchase and download online. So while you map isn't included with the device, you should be able to add it.
this is all just theory for those needing to be on the edge.

I was considering whether to put this in a new thread, but I decided to post it as a reply here.

I wonder if Mio have considered making a seperate version of the KR sat-nav, that could be
fully integrated into the dashboards of KITT replicas, so the maps appear on KITT's monitors
and the voice modulator reacts accordingly to the voice of KITT used in the sat-nav itself.

I'm sure there's a few KITT replica owners that want to get this sat-nav for their cars, and
are considering buying it, so it can be pulled to bits, then somehow integrated into the dashboards of their KITT replicas, even though it's likely to invalidate the warranty.

DJGM, unfortunately getting a Mio product specially designed to fit KITT replicas is highly implausible. There just not a big enough market for it. The fact that we even got the one released is great, but the reason we have that is because it will sell for the masses, regardless what kind of car you drive.

Maybe someone someday will be able to alter the device to do that... :D It seems like it would be easy if you had the materials.
