have to ask this: why is this being referred to as a "backdoor" pilot? that term is usually reserved for an episode or movie of an already-running show that is acting as a sneaky pilot for a new show. in the knight rider universe, look back at season two's "mouth of the snake", which acted as a backdoor pilot for a potential new series called Code Of Vengeance.
NBC has been very clear that this IS a pilot movie. Indeed, they've made much hoopla that this KR pilot is the first of a new breed, a new way of approaching the pilot marketplace.

It's called a "backdoor pilot" because technically it is a
made for tv movie, but instead of being
just a stand alone made for tv movie of the week it also has the
possibility of being the pilot for a potential new
Knight Rider tv series if it's picked up.
They have to use the term "backdoor" because it's not a guarantee they will make a series based off it.
Hope that clears things up,
=VK=

Either that or you feel like you've just taken it in the backdoor after seeing it. Also known as the "Knight Rider 2000/KR2010/TKR effect". Hopefully it doesn't happen this time around.
I'm expecting a Knight Rider marathon on Sci-Fi the weekend before the premiere. Though if the TV movie does indeed suck, that might just backfire in making it look worse.

From what I have seen so far I don't think its going to suck. But you never know. I have gone and seen movies at the theatre that had great trailers. But boy did they suck. One month to go will we survive?

SciFi has another cool article online, focusing on Justin and his knee injury.

Bruening acknowledged that it'll be a while until he can perform stunts. "There's a lot of cool stunts in here that they wouldn't let do," he said. "But that will change [laughs]. I get to go to driving school, apparently, if this gets picked up [to series].
"I think we have to wait for the writers' strike to work itself out, and obviously we can't write any scripts until they get what they want, and I hope they do," Bruening said. "But it's a little premature to find out. ... If it does well enough, the movie, I'm sure they'll probably green-light it."

That's cool, hopefully if it does get picked up he doesn't have regular knee problems. For his and productions sake.

But no pilot is guaranteed success. A backdoor pilot has always been described as how i put it in my previous post. To continue to refer to this that way degrades it, they ARE promoting this as a pilot and if successful a brand new series.
