Considering that NBC ponies up roughly $3 million per episode, and that NBC-Universal has recently issued a $500 million dollar cut in its overall annual budget, budget is everything, including stunts that can be resolved using cheaper CG effects instead of crash cars, as well as shortening the vehicle sequences. I don't think a better chase at the end would have saved "R&R All Knight" regardless; the script was so awful, even if the chase were as good as the classic one in the movie Bullitt... (well, okay, maybe that would have made things a little better)

Hopefully, the upcoming "retooling" will cut the budget fluffs and act more responsible with the money they're getting. If you ask me, NBC should do what Paramount did to Star Trek: Enterprise in that show's 4th season: strip over 1/3 of the show's budget, which actually led to the most critically acclaimed season for that entire series.

Viewership in TV is dropping all over the place, not just with KR, and networks know that its actually cheaper to keep risky shows (like KR, or in FOX's case, Terminator) active in the wretched global economy we're in rather than cancel them for fear of advertisers asking for their sponsorship money back.

I'm just looking forward to the next episode but i think they should change their demographic age range to incorporate younger viewers, like the old show...

Michael Knight Sr. was in the military.

It didn't only come from the mouth of Wilton Knight's surgeon, it also came from Michael Knight Sr. himself. In the prison scene in the second half of KotP, while Michael was talking to another prisoner before KI2T drives through the prison wall and rescues him, Michael directly mentions his service in Vietnam.

Excuse me, but I thought that they were already catering to an audience of 12 year olds. They need to drop all the sillyness and get more serious, not regress even further.

What I meant was Knight Rider TOS was suitable viewing for younger audiences without losing the interest of the older viewer. I'm not suggesting aiming the show at 12 year olds, what i'm suggesting is dropping the 'hormone driven' plotlines and 'foreplay metaphors' etc and get back to an action show more in the spirit of the 80's original. The fact that Billy and Zoe were in KITT at the beginning basically spelling out the subtext of what Mike and Sarah were doing whilst 'combat training' totally went against any subtlety that may have been lost on a younger viewer. I wonder did any parents get questions from their kids after this episode?

Before anyone points out that times have changed, I am aware of that but the storyline writing (and the basic premise of a talking car) isnt really sophisticated enough to be 'only suitable for older teens and above'. Neither was the original, thats why they were able to have great merchandise, because KIDS buy toys. Teens might buy the video game but they won't buy into the whole 'fantasy element' of the show as, by nature, teens are too cynical.

So with that in mind, they should make the sub plots a little more 'kid friendly'

I've scared myself writing this post as I now feel old and have never seen myself as a prudish person....

anyway

"That's how we roll...."

Ok pheonix_knight, I get what you were trying to say and I agree. Actually, one of my problems with the so called sexual sitituations on the show is that they are giving the adults scripts to act out that seem to be written for young gawky teenagers. Seeing them act out these juvenile roles really makes me cringe. Everything has it's place, but Knight Rider should not be written as if it were an episode of 90210. By the way, don't feel old because I'm older than you and I feel much the same way about the direction the show should take.

My only point is, budget is not an excuse for their lack of chase scenes.
Actually it's quite a big factor of their chase scenes. We're not just talking about a single camera, more like a dussin and it's not just the camera itself becuase they need some customized equipment for which the camera should be positioned on (whether it's positioned on Kitt's bonnet or the road). Sometimes they even need vehicles that can travel in Kitt's speed to be able to film a particular chase scene.

I wished the shows producers felt like you Matt. Have you seen the preview for next weeks show? 90% of the preview for next weeks show was T & A. (And I don't mean Trans-Am) ....sigh

Like I told everyone on this board about the T & As. There's way too much of that! If they'd do excellent chasing scenes and fully blown action those girls would pass on the camera just fine and everyone would find amusement in it. However, if you bring medioker action, dull car chases and then give a shot of what you call "focused on todays teenagers" you'll wind up with the kind of ratings we've seen drop like an apple from a tree. My P.O.V. of course.

I think we all need to remove our rose tinted sunglasses for a moment here, because the original series relied heavily on T & A as well in its own way. The only difference between the two from a social standpoint is that of what’s judged to be acceptable in this day and age compared to back then.

The real problem with this show is that the budget doesn’t seem to allow the action offset that the original was able to rely upon each week when it came to distracting us from the adult content that we weren’t interested in when we were kids.

I remember a few eps that had such scenes (one where MK goes to visit someone and he has a bunch of girls in bikins throwing beachballs at each other, then there was the model one), but it has never made me cringe like the new series does. Maybe it's more of the way it's done, rather than the content?

You make it seem like every episode of KR08 has had an over-ubundance of bikini-girls, yet I recall only two episodes so far like that, one was a beach episodes so d'uh. And the other was the party in "Journey."
Wow.....two episodes, thats alot

Not Knight Rider you say...
Hmmm.

Well, we have a car named the Knight Industries Three Thousand
The driver's name is Michael Knight
The operation is ran by Knight Industries

I think that make's this show Knight Rider, oh plus the fact that it is called Knight Rider....they say it in commercials, magazines, blogs, radio, movie theaters.....oh, and the letters during the intro of the show that....wait, what do they say.....wow......KNIGHT RIDER.

And i happen to this this show is very close to the 80s show, and in some ways better....

edit: i just noticed all five of your posts you are bashing the show....why bother coming here if you dont like the show....why do you keep on watching if you've appearently made your mind that this show is "not even close," it seems rather silly and pointless to waste your time on something that you think's a waste of time. Do you like the attention or something?

I am happy with this show.
I love this show more and more every week.
And in someways, i really like this incarnation more than the original.
All my friends now know me as the Knight Rider-Guy.
And I even turned one of my friends, who really hated the original, into a Knight Rider fan too because of this show.
(It was weird friday night, cause he actually suggested KR episode 1 so he know what's going on better.....and no one i know has asked me to turn the show on, i just do it anyways)

I feel this show is 95% perfect....once they get the funds to do more practical stunts it'll be 100% for me.

If only it were as easy for me to like the new show as easily as you. Me and my fellow slacker friends were so jazzed about the new series after the pilot. Now, on Wednesday nights, if I bring up the issue of beer and Knight Rider, they'd rather watch a DVD or ESPN or throw something on the nintendo wii. It's almost embarrassing to tell them I still want to watch KR, so I'm forced to watch the reruns on Fancast by myself. It's too bad, but it at least gives me a bit of an idea why the ratings are dropping. The show just doesn't have the right kind of charm to keep the masses interested anymore and leaves the more dedicated fans like me feeling disappointed that the show is going in a direction that could doom it before it has a chance to shine.

OK Even if Michael Knight Sr did serve in the military. His conduct was never that of a jarhead that is for certain. Ask anybody that is serving in the armed forces and they would tell you that Mike Jr's behavior is preciselt the one that would save your skin in a dangerous situation and not the other way around. The people that are complaining obviously have no clue about this and obviously have no familiy or friends in the miitary either...

You think this show is 95% perfect and you like this more than the original? Are you kidding me? If you are 22, you weren't even around when the original was on. Watching repeats of a show before your time doesn't qualify you to bash the original. If you had watched the original series when if had first aired, you would have understood how groundbreaking this show was at the time. Everything was so cool and original with things you hadn't seen before. What is original about KR08? Don't get me wrong, I want the show to succeed, but it is nowhere near the kind of show the original was when it aired in the early 80's. The new show is more like 50% of it's potential and the dropping ratings would argue my point. They have a lot to change about this show which is why they are cutting cast and changing directions. I just wonder how it is that you call yourself the Knight Rider guy when you put down the original and state how nearly perfect the new show is when it hasn't even had a whole season yet and is plagued with problems.

Ya, well, I don't believe kids are really buying into this show. If you're into fantasy, like we are, then the show is for you. My little brother digs the wow factor, yet hates Knight Rider for the way it's done. He texted me out of the blue last Saturday after watching the show at a friends house on how gay he thought the way it was all done. He bitched on the acting.....of course, right? Honest to God truth here, kids won't dig it just because it's fun. I confessed to him that this is just something I grew up with since I was a toddler, and that is maybe the reason why I still like it now.

Just to sum things up here, I really really hope they don't lower the bar any more than they have. If they make this into a pure kiddy show, I might have to give it up like I did when MTV went into the gutter during the early mid 90's.
