Patricia McPherson asks a favor
I got a call from Patricia McPherson today (I work with her environmental group). She asked me to specifically forward this news story to the Knight Rider community and ask for their help. It is an 8-minute investigative report talking about the dangers of underground gas leaks in a new housing development being built in Los Angeles. Patricia is interviewed throughout the segment, so you will be able to hear her talk about her cause and you'll see how well-spoken and passionate she is.
She is asking that people email the local NBC channel here and "congratulate" them. In our society where Paris Hilton and Michael Jackson make front-page headlines on a daily basis, doing a piece of true investigative reporting is a brave thing to do, and apparently right up until the actual broadcast they didn't know if they would air the story or not. (Many high-powered people wanted to snuff the story.) NBC has more footage and data for a second report, and Patricia wants to make sure that they are encouraged to do more stories like this.
So please, take a few minutes and watch the video. And please send a quick email to comments@nbc4.tv thanking them or complimenting them or congratulating them on the report. Patricia wants to make sure that they are encouraged to do more stories like this. However, please do NOT mention Knight Rider or Patricia being an actress; it will undermine your message.
Same file, different ways to get there (some people have had trouble with some of the links)

That's a very interesting report. I especially like how all of Patricia's findings were found to be "false and misleading" after she was able to ignite flames in one of the buildings. Once again in this country, it's about money, not safety. America doesn't have its priorities straight when its focused on making the rich richer and supporting corporations. It's refreshing to see somebody using their fame to make a difference in the world for the better, while the rest of America focuses on talentless "celebrities" such as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Like anything else, people will only care once a disaster occurs. Enough is enough. I E-mailed NBC and briefly congratulated them.

I of course had to write as well. Reminds me of some things that were aired here in NY State related to dangerous chemicals, etc. I think the news programs are doing a community service when they air these reports. And I hope Patricia McPhearson can get the city to re-evaluate. She's one strong lady to do all this stuff.
BTW, She looks GREAT in the video! Seems like she didn't age a bit.

That was a very interesting story. You don't see many of these on TV, especially so long and so detailed. I found it amusing that when asked for their side both the developers and the gas company replied "No comment." That just screams guilty if you ask me.

And this is why . . .Michael Pajaro wrote: . . . some people have had trouble with some of the links . . .
NBC4.tv and TheFeedRoom wrote: This site is designed for use with Windows Media Player 9 and Internet Explorer only.
Considering the fact that the video is about a very important environmental issue, how veryNBC4.tv and TheFeedRoom also wrote: You need Windows 98, NT, 2000, XP, or ME
and one of the following browsers:
i. Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0
2. Flash and Media Player Requirements
a. Flash 5.0 or higher for Internet Explorer
b. Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher
(QuickTime and Real Player are not supported.)
ignorant, shallow, and irresponsible for NBC4.tv and TheFeedRoom to restrict it's viewing,
only to those users with a specific browser (IE) on a specific OS (Windows).
A QuickTime movie may be in order, particularly for users of Firefox and/or Apple Macs.

Patrica McPhersen video report on NBC4.tv
I have just seen the video report that Ms. McPhersen was in. I applaud her for bringing this issue to the public's attention.
I also sent a comment to NBC4.tv telling them how I appreciated them
showing the report.
I'd like to help her in anyway I can.

Here's a quicktime movie of it (i'm missing first 30 seconds or so at the beginning)
It's a 9 minute report, so it's a large 7 MB file:
