Die Cast KITT Toy, If only it could have talked

Post by KNIGHT RAIDER » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:23 am

The 1:18 scale die cast KITT is about as authentic as the real thing, including the red scanner light. My only complaint is that it doesn't talk, which would have given the toy more character. I believe the toy should have included several famous lines spoken by KITT. Anyone with suggestions on what Die Cast KITT would say.
I don't need no "Wizard Of Oz Car" putting me behind the 8 ball, for nothing. LOL (The Rev)

All they did was blow away a "Ringmaster", they didn't even steal any hamburgers. LOL (Michael)

if they did that, then the car's price would rocket and i doubt it'd be affordable to the majority of the public, therefore ertl would lose out.

The thing is, it's already been done with the 1983 Kenner Voice Car and it was actually William Daniels' voice. Since the phrases he says on the car were not clips taken from the actual series itself, Kenner must have contacted Mr. Daniels to lend his vocal talents for their toy. I'm very surprised they were able to do this. It must not have been that expensive at the time to get him to do recordings for their company.

In any event, Ertl would have to go through the same process Kenner went through in 1983 to get him to record any more phrases. Either that or they would probably have to pay Universal a fee and/or get permission to use phrases from clips throughout the series.
“Gimme maximum turbo thrust and blast me outta here, will ya!?”

ERTL would probably be criticized by fans and collectors for copying an idea from Kenner, although the Kenner KITT was plastic and not die-cast.

In answer to the original question, the phrase where KITT "introduces" himself to Michael in the pilot:

"I am the voice of the Knight Industry Two Thousand's microprocessor. K-I-T-T for easy reference, KITT if you prefer..."

...and television history was made.

The voice modulator on KITT's dashboard schematics on the DVD extras says that - the only problem I have with that is that it's the later LED modulator on the dashboard. When KITT said that phrase he had the square flashing light modulator.

Here's few funny phrases (IMO):
"I suggest you'd use extreme caution!" (Knightmares)
"Is it all right to respond?" (Pilot)
"With all due respect, you aren't possibly considering... oh my word, you are!" (Pilot)
"Activate the turboboost!" (Pilot)
"Don't touch turboboost!" (Lost Knight)
"Are they serious!" (Not a Drop to Drink)
"Michael, be careful"
"Very funny"
etc.

:) I'm just happy that Ertl made them. I'm getting mine this week. I sent away for it by mail order.
